Assassin's Creed Multiplayer SHUT DOWN?! What Happens Now?!
Gaming News 06 February 2026

Well, folks, it seems the cost-cutting axe at Ubisoft swings again. Just last month, we were digesting the news of six game cancellations, including the highly anticipated, or maybe *dreaded* at this point, Prince of Persia: Sands of Time remake. Ouch. At the time, most of us assumed the core franchises, especially Assassin's Creed, were safe. Guess we were wrong.

Assassin's Creed Multiplayer SHUT DOWN?! What Happ...

According to a report from French gaming site Origami (and let's be honest, those guys usually have solid intel), Ubisoft has canned an unannounced Assassin's Creed multiplayer project. This one was apparently codenamed "Assassin's Creed League," which honestly, sounds pretty cool. Imagine a team of assassins coordinating takedowns. It could have been a blast.

The details are still a bit sketchy, but supposedly AC League would have supported up to four players working together on assassination missions. Think a co-op stealth adventure, which is a pretty intriguing direction for the franchise. What's even more interesting is that this project allegedly sprouted from DLC initially planned for Assassin's Creed Shadows. So, same historical setting, same vibe, just expanded into a fully-fledged multiplayer experience. Talk about missed potential, right?

The studio behind this canceled project? None other than Ubisoft Annecy. These are the folks who gave us the multiplayer modes in Assassin's Creed Brotherhood, Unity, and Black Flag. They clearly know their way around creating engaging online experiences within the AC universe. That's what makes this cancellation all the more baffling. You've got a proven team, a seemingly solid concept, and...poof. Gone.

And here's the kicker: Origami's report explicitly states that this cancellation is *separate* from the six games that got the chop in January. Meaning this is a whole new wave of cuts. Ouch, again. You have to wonder what's going on behind the scenes at Ubisoft. Are they scrambling to streamline operations? Are they shifting focus to other projects? Whatever the reason, it's clear that some tough decisions are being made, and unfortunately, Assassin's Creed League seems to be a casualty.

For more on this developing story, head over to GameSpot, where they're digging deeper into the report. As for me? I'm going to pour one out for what could have been a really unique and fun addition to the Assassin's Creed franchise. Maybe someday we'll see a return to this concept, but for now, it's a silent assassination, permanently deleted from the timeline. Sigh.
