Superman Slaying Zombies?! House Of The Dead Casting SHOCKS Fans!
Gaming News 06 February 2026

Okay, zombie fans, listen up! It looks like Paul W.S. Anderson is finally making good on his promise to bring Sega's classic arcade shooter "The House of the Dead" to the big screen. And, get this, they've just announced who's going to be leading the charge against the undead hordes: Isabela Merced.

Superman Slaying Zombies?! House Of The Dead Casti...

Now, if that name doesn't immediately ring a bell, trust me, it should. Merced's been steadily building a serious resume. She's got some major projects under her belt already, and it looks like she's poised to break out in a big way. From what I see, she's got the acting chops, the presence, and the action experience to really pull this off. The range of characters she's played is impressive, I must say.

This casting news is significant for a few reasons. First, Merced is hardly a stranger to the sci-fi/horror genre. She's set to appear in "Alien: Romulus" later this year, and even had a role in "The Last of Us" series on HBO. So, she knows how to handle intense and demanding roles. Second, and this is a big one, she's also playing Hawkgirl in James Gunn's upcoming "Superman" film, slated for 2025. Talk about hitting the big time!

Anderson, who, let's be honest, has a bit of a mixed track record when it comes to video game adaptations (remember the Resident Evil films?), seems genuinely excited about this project. In a statement to Deadline, he said that "The House of the Dead is a game I have loved for many years, and I'm beyond thrilled to be bringing this to the big screen with such an exciting talent as Isabela at its heart." He even went on to call it the "start of a tentpole franchise," which suggests he's got big plans for this universe. Whether that's a good or bad thing, we'll have to wait and see, I suppose. Personally, my bar isn't too high with most video game movie conversions.

The original "House of the Dead" is a pretty straightforward zombie shooter – think waves of undead creatures, gruesome boss battles, and plenty of cheesy dialogue. If Anderson can capture the over-the-top, B-movie vibe of the game while adding a compelling narrative and some genuine scares, this could actually be a fun ride. Maybe Merced will finally give him the hit video game adaptation he has been striving for. Anyway, it's early days yet, but with Merced leading the charge, "The House of the Dead" movie might just surprise us all.
