Bowen Yang, the comedic force behind some of "Saturday Night Live's" most memorable sketches, is adjusting to life after Studio 8H. After his mid-season departure from the iconic NBC sketch comedy show in December, Yang is now experiencing "SNL" from a whole new perspective: the couch.

Bowen Yang SNL Shocker: "Totally Bizarre!" What Ha...

The five-time Emmy nominee, who wrapped up his seven-season run halfway through Season 51, recently shared his thoughts on this transition with People magazine. And let's just say, it's been a trip. "I was in Japan but I was watching," Yang revealed, describing his experience of tuning in to recent episodes. "I was getting texts from old coworkers, just saying hi and that the train was still running and a mutual missing of each other." It's a sentiment many of us can relate to, that feeling of being on the outside looking in after leaving a familiar environment.

Yang, ever the comedian, described watching the show as a viewer as "bizarre, but ultimately fun." He elaborated, "I don’t want to believe that it’s totally bizarre to me, but it’s obviously an adjustment." Imagine going from the frantic energy of writing, rehearsing, and performing live every week to simply...watching. That's a major shift in routine and certainly a unique perspective. I mean, I’ve only ever watched from home, and even *that* can be a roller coaster!

One of the unexpected perks of Yang's new role as a viewer? Relief from the emotional weight of the "SNL" process. "To not know what the process is from soup to nuts with the whole week is alleviating," he explained. "The emotional baggage of it has been lifted for me. So just watching the sketches every week these past three shows have been great.” It sounds like a much-needed exhale for someone who poured so much of himself into the show. You can practically hear the relaxation in his words, right?

For those who might need a refresher, Yang's journey with "SNL" is nothing short of impressive. He joined as a writer in Season 44 back in 2018 and quickly proved his comedic chops. He was promoted to the cast the following year, and in 2021, he made history as the first "SNL" featured player to earn a Primetime Emmy nomination. Clearly, the guy knows funny.

It will be interesting to see what Yang does next. Whether he continues to pursue acting, writing, or perhaps even stand-up, one thing is for sure: his unique brand of humor will continue to entertain audiences for years to come. And who knows, maybe he'll even make a cameo on "SNL" someday. Now *that* would be fun to watch.
