Current Affairs 07 February 2026

Polop de la Marina is about to get a whole lot more colourful! The picturesque town nestled in the hills is gearing up for its Carnival 2026 celebrations, scheduled for Friday, February 13th. Organizers have promised a day packed with fun for everyone, and judging from the schedule, they aren't kidding. I've been to a few of these local fiestas over the years, and let me tell you, the energy is infectious.

The festivities officially kick off at 5:00 PM with everyone gathering to prepare for the main event: the parade. At 5:30 PM, the Ermita of Polop will be the starting point for a procession that's expected to wind its way through the heart of the town. Think vibrant costumes, lively music, and an overall atmosphere that’s designed to bring the whole community together. From what I've heard, they're really hoping for a great turnout, and with the weather forecast looking promising, it's shaping up to be a fantastic day.

For the younger crowd, from 6:00 PM to 7:30 PM, there's a dedicated children's party planned. Face painting, games, and a disco – what more could a kid want? It's all designed to be a safe and fun environment for families to enjoy the Carnival spirit. It's great to see an event that really prioritizes the little ones; it's these kinds of experiences that create lasting memories. And, of course, get them hooked on the local traditions!

The slightly older kids, those 12 and up, don’t get left out either. Starting at 8:00 PM, there's an evening program just for them, running until 10:00 PM. Now, this is interesting – they're having an alcohol-free cocktail workshop. Clever idea! You'll need to register beforehand by scanning a QR code or hitting an online link. They're also throwing in music, a giant Twister game, and a few other surprises to keep things lively. It sounds like a good way to keep them entertained and engaged.

And because no Carnival is complete without a bit of friendly competition, there's a costume contest. Awards will be handed out for the best individual costume, the best group costume, and the most original design. This is where people really get to flex their creative muscles! I've seen some truly incredible costumes over the years; the level of effort and imagination is always impressive. It's a great way to encourage community involvement and add an extra layer of excitement to the day.

All the activities will be taking place on the first floor of the Edificio Multiusos, which should provide plenty of space for everyone. The Town Hall is really pushing for maximum participation, emphasizing that this is a key celebration that brings together families, young people, and the entire community. So, if you're in or near Polop de la Marina on February 13th, Carnival 2026 promises to be a memorable day filled with music, colour, and good old-fashioned fun.
