Barbie Hsu's Inheritance: Family SHUTS DOWN DJ Koo Feud Rumors!
Current Affairs 11 February 2026

The swirling rumors of a $32 million inheritance battle involving the family of the late Taiwanese actress Barbie Hsu and her husband, South Korean DJ Koo (Koo Jun-yup), have been emphatically shut down. Reports suggesting a bitter feud, fueled by alleged legal preparations by Koo against Hsu’s mother, have been met with strong denials and heartfelt declarations of familial unity.

Barbie Hsu's Inheritance: Family SHUTS DOWN DJ Koo...

The Taiwanese media went into overdrive earlier this week, painting a picture of deep-seated tensions bubbling beneath the surface, despite the family's seemingly unified front at a recent memorial for Hsu. The whispers suggested Koo was gearing up for legal action concerning the division of Hsu’s considerable estate, further claiming that Hsu’s mother had lawyered up in response. It made for dramatic reading, I’ll admit.

However, Hsu’s mother has come out swinging, dismissing the allegations as utterly false. "I detest lawsuits. They waste people and money," she stated, a sentiment I think we can all agree with. More importantly, she emphasized her close bond with Koo, saying, "I now consider Koo my son. He deeply loved my daughter and respects me. He is part of our family." This paints a very different picture than the one the tabloids were trying to sell.

Adding her voice to the chorus of denial, Barbie Hsu’s younger sister, Dee Hsu, didn't mince words. "Whoever spreads this kind of rumor is malicious and has ill intent," she declared. "Koo gave my sister pure love and real happiness. Our family is grateful to him. He is our family. We will protect him." Dee Hsu clearly hopes this puts an end to the gossip. It's a powerful statement, and hopefully, it will quell the speculation.

Barbie Hsu and DJ Koo’s love story was one for the ages, really. They dated briefly in the late 90s before drifting apart, only to reconnect and marry in 2022 after more than two decades. Her untimely passing in February 2025 from acute pneumonia, while vacationing in Japan with her family, was a shock to everyone. Given her estimated NT$1 billion (about $32 million) estate, the potential for inheritance squabbles was, sadly, something many probably anticipated.

Interestingly, following Hsu's death, Koo himself had expressed his intention to relinquish his inheritance, stating he wanted his share to go to his mother-in-law. "I’m enduring excruciating pain and grief, and I have neither the strength nor the will to speak," he had said at the time. This act of generosity, if carried out, certainly undercuts any narrative of a money-grabbing feud. It seems the Hsu family is determined to honor Barbie’s memory with unity and love, not legal battles and bitterness.
