Thirty years. That's a long time in gaming, and Blizzard Entertainment is pulling out all the stops to celebrate three decades of demon-slaying fun with their Diablo franchise. And what better way to celebrate than by adding a brand-new class to one of their most beloved titles? That's right, folks, the Warlock is coming to Diablo 2: Resurrected!
Diablo 2: Warlock DLC Unleashed! 25 Years Later – ...
The "Reign of the Warlock" DLC dropped today, February 11th, and it's available on just about everything: PC, PlayStation, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch... even Battle.net and, marking another milestone, Steam! For $24.99, you can delve into the dark arts and bring a whole new playstyle to the classic game. Personally, I've been itching for some new content in D2R, and a class that was absent from the original? Color me intrigued.
This isn't just a D2: Resurrected exclusive, either. Blizzard unveiled a whole slew of Warlock-themed goodies across the Diablo universe during their Diablo Anniversary Spotlight. The Warlock is also slated to make an appearance in Diablo 4: Lord of Hatred, hitting PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S on April 28th. And even mobile gamers get some love, as the Warlock is scheduled to arrive in Diablo Immortal this summer. It's a Warlockapalooza!
But let's get back to D2R, because that's where the real nostalgia is for a lot of us. The big draw, of course, is the ability to finally play as a Warlock. Forget your Paladin's holy aura, this is about summoning demons! We're talking Goatmen, the Tainted, the Defiler – and then twisting them to your will. Bind them, devour them, gain their temporary buffs and traits. It's all very…Diablo.
Beyond the Warlock class itself, the update brings some seriously welcome changes to Diablo 2: Resurrected. We're talking enhanced Terror Zones, which let you earn consumables and even *choose* which acts get terrorized. On Hell difficulty, get ready to face Heralds of Terror! And if you're truly dedicated to the grind, you can unveil five mystical statues to unlock the Colossal Ancients, described as "the next evolution of endgame battles." Sounds intense, right?
And because Blizzard actually *listens* (sometimes!), they've tossed in some much-needed quality-of-life improvements. Built-in loot filters? Hallelujah! Improved stash tabs with stacking? My hoarding heart sings! And a Chronicle to track all the items you've collected? Finally, a reason to actually pick up all those chipped gems! It's a welcome injection of modernity into a game that, while beloved, definitely shows its age. As IGN pointed out in their 7/10 review, the remaster "brings a beloved classic up to today's graphical standards, but it overlooks 20 years of obvious flaws." Hopefully, this new DLC addresses some of those flaws.
So, whether you're a die-hard Diablo 2 veteran or a newcomer looking to see what all the fuss is about, the "Reign of the Warlock" update is a solid excuse to jump back into Sanctuary. Just be prepared to embrace your inner demon.
