David Boreanaz as Rockford? Fans STUNNED by Reboot News!

Well, folks, it looks like we have our man for the new "Rockford Files" reboot! David Boreanaz, a familiar face from shows like "Angel," "Bones," and "SEAL Team," has officially snagged the lead role in NBC's pilot. He'll be stepping into the (admittedly rather large) shoes of James Garner, playing the iconic Jim Rockford, the wisecracking, down-on-his-luck private eye. It's a big role to fill, and I’m curious to see how Boreanaz handles it.

Apparently, this was one of the most sought-after roles this pilot season. Word on the street is that only two offers were actually made, and the initial frontrunner fell through thanks to some logistical snags involving where the show was going to be filmed. While "The Rockford Files" is, of course, set in sunny Los Angeles, the pilot is actually being shot in Atlanta, with some additional filming back in L.A. The location for the series proper, if it gets picked up, is still up in the air, but I hear they’re eyeing those California tax credits, so fingers crossed it comes back to its roots!

This could be good news, though. Boreanaz has a pretty impressive track record when it comes to TV pilots. It seems like every pilot he's ever starred in has been picked up, and then goes on to enjoy a long, successful run. "Angel" racked up over 100 episodes, as did "SEAL Team," and "Bones" even managed to break the 200-episode mark. So, from a statistical perspective, things are looking promising. You know, I always liked him in "Bones", so maybe this will be pretty good.

The minds behind this contemporary take on "The Rockford Files" include writer Mike Daniels and producers Sarah Timberman and Carl Beverly, with Universal Television backing the project. The reboot will see James Rockford (Boreanaz) fresh out of prison after being wrongfully convicted. Naturally, he goes back to his old life as a private investigator in Los Angeles. He'll be using his charm and street smarts to solve cases, all while trying to stay on the right side of the law, which, let's be honest, never goes quite as planned. His pursuit of legitimacy puts him squarely in the crosshairs of both the police and organized crime. Sounds like the Rockford we all know and (sometimes) love!

Daniels, Timberman, and Beverly will be executive producing under their Timberman/Beverly banner, with Chris Leanza co-executive producing. And of course, Universal Television, a division of Universal Studio Group, is the studio behind the reboot, so it's got some serious firepower behind it. Boreanaz is repped by CAA, Visionary Entertainment, and Felker Toczek Suddleson. So, all the pieces are in place. Now we just have to wait and see if this Rockford reboot can recapture the magic of the original.
