CBS is betting big on the "Ghosts" magic, folks. The network is bringing back key players from the hit paranormal Comedy for a new pilot, "Eternally Yours," a vampire-themed comedy. And that sounds like a potentially killer combo (pun intended!).
'Ghosts' Director Returns! What This Means For You...
Trent O'Donnell, the director who helmed the original "Ghosts" pilot and executive produced several seasons, is on board to direct. This is a smart move. Pilots are notoriously tricky, and having someone with a proven track record – especially with a similar tone and creative team – gives "Eternally Yours" a major leg up.
The team behind "Ghosts," Joe Port and Joe Wiseman, are also writing and executive producing "Eternally Yours." These are the guys who know what makes a CBS Comedy tick. They understand how to balance humor with heart, and frankly, "Ghosts" is a genuinely funny and heartwarming show. Parker Young, familiar to CBS fans, is also set to star in the pilot. This suggests they are building a solid cast.
But the good news doesn't stop there for O'Donnell. He's also renewed his first-look deal with CBS Studios. This means he'll be creating, developing, and producing projects for the studio. It's a testament to the confidence CBS has in his talent. I think it's always interesting to see where these first-look deals lead. Sometimes they produce gold, sometimes… well, not so much. But given O'Donnell's resume, I have high hopes.
O'Donnell isn't just a CBS guy, though. He's got a diverse portfolio spanning both the U.S. and his native Australia. He co-created "No Activity" for Paramount+ (formerly CBS All Access) and is also directing the ABC comedy pilot "Do You Want Kids?" This guy is busy! He's also got credits on shows like "Saved by the Bell" (Peacock reboot), "The Letdown" (Netflix), and "Guilty Party" (Paramount+). Clearly, he's got a knack for comedy, and networks are lining up to work with him.
It's rare to see such a strong creative alignment in Hollywood these days. "Eternally Yours" already has a strong foundation. Whether it can capture the same magic as "Ghosts" remains to be seen, but with O'Donnell and Port/Wiseman at the helm, it's definitely one to watch. The show is executive produced by Eric Tannenbaum, Kim Tannenbaum, and Jason Wang. O'Donnell is represented by UTA, Mosaic, and Sloane, Offer, Weber, Dern.
