Costume Designers Guild Awards: SHOCKING Upset! Who Won BIG?!
Movies & TV Series 13 February 2026

Lights, camera, fashion! The 28th annual Costume Designers Guild Awards (CDGAs) are in full swing at the Wilshire Ebell Theater in Los Angeles, and Deadline is on the ground bringing you live updates. This is always a fun event because it's a great indicator of what we might see at the Oscars. And, let's be honest, who *doesn't* love a good costume drama?

Costume Designers Guild Awards: SHOCKING Upset! Wh...

The evening kicked off with a win for Kate Hawley, taking home the Excellence in Period Film award for her stunning work on Netflix's *Frankenstein*. Hawley is also an Oscar nominee, so this could be a good omen for her chances next month. Interestingly, the CDGAs have a pretty good track record when it comes to predicting the Academy Award for Costume Design. Since 1999, the Academy Award has gone to a period film in all but four years. Talk about a reliable source!

Other early winners include Michael Wilkinson, who snagged the Excellence in Sci-Fi/Fantasy Television prize for Disney+'s *Andor*. That show certainly has some visually striking designs, so it's a well-deserved win. And Alix Friedberg & Leigh Bell walked away with the Excellence in Period Television award for Apple TV's *Palm Royale*. I haven't seen that one yet, but I'm definitely adding it to my watchlist based on the buzz alone.

Beyond the competitive awards, the guild is also handing out some special honors tonight. Teyana Taylor, an Oscar nominee for *One Battle After Another*, accepted the Vanguard Spotlight Award. James Cameron, the visionary behind *Avatar* and *Titanic*, is set to receive the Distinguished Collaborator Award. And the ever-stylish Kate Hudson, of *Song Sung Blue* fame, will be honored with the Spotlight Award. Rounding out the special awards is the Career Achievement Award, which will be presented to Emmy-nominated costume designer Michelle Cole. Hosting the whole shebang is Courtney Hope, Daytime Emmy winner from *The Young and the Restless* – a delightful choice, I must say.

Here's a quick rundown of the remaining winners: Paul Tazewell for *Wicked: For Good* (Excellence in Sci-Fi/Fantasy Film), Rafaella Rabinovich for *Dandyland: Episode 10* and Michelle Martini for *Uber Eats: A Century of Cravings, Super Bowl* (tied for Excellence in Short Form Design), Jennifer Johnson for *Bugonia* (Excellence in Contemporary Film), Marylin Fitoussi for *Emily in Paris*, “Veni, Vidi, Venezia,” (Excellence in Contemporary Television), and Steven Norman Lee & Daniela Gschwendtner for *Dancing with the Stars*, “Premiere,” (Excellence in Variety, Reality-Competition, Live Television). It's been a fantastic night celebrating the incredible artistry and craftsmanship of Costume Designers. We'll be keeping an eye on how these wins might influence the upcoming Academy Awards!
