Well, well, well, looks like the honeymoon is officially over. Donald Trump, never one to let a perceived slight go unanswered, has absolutely unloaded on Bill Maher, calling their White House dinner "a total waste of time." This, less than a year after the HBO "Real Time" host actually dined with the former president. You know, the dinner that was supposed to bridge divides and foster some kind of understanding? Apparently, not so much.
Trump's SHOCKING Maher Attack! Was White House Inv...
The explosion, as is often the case these days, went down on Truth Social over the weekend. Trump, clearly not amused by Maher's recent jokes and commentary, specifically took aim at Maher's ribbing of Trump's rather… unique prediction that China would eradicate hockey in Canada. I mean, let's be honest, that's comedy gold right there, even if you're not a Maher fan.
“In any event, it was a total waste of time for me to have this jerk at the White House,” Trump fumed, referring to their April meeting, which, bizarrely enough, was apparently brokered by Kid Rock. Remember when Kid Rock was a political kingmaker? What a world. Trump then went on to rehash his original comments about Canada, claiming he "jokingly" suggested China would "terminate ALL Ice Hockey being played in Canada, and permanently eliminate The Stanley Cup." The all-caps emphasis is all his, folks. You can practically feel the indignation seeping through the screen.
It's all a bit ironic, isn’t it? Because after that very same White House visit, Maher himself described Trump as "gracious and measured," even going so far as to say he thought Trump was "much more self-aware than he lets on in public." Makes you wonder what exactly went down between then and now to trigger this level of… let's call it "displeasure."
As of this writing, a spokesperson for Maher is staying mum, declining to comment. Smart move, probably. Why poke the bear, right? No doubt Maher will address it on his show eventually; he’s not one to shy away from controversy. I’m sure the writers are already working overtime crafting the perfect opening monologue.
Trump, never one to leave a stone unturned (or a grievance unexpressed), wrapped up his Truth Social tirade by lamenting the perceived waste of his precious time. Apparently, Maher requested the dinner through a mutual friend. "He came into the famed Oval Office much different than I thought he would be. He was extremely nervous, had ZERO confidence…" Trump wrote, adding another layer of… well, let's just say it wasn't a glowing review. So, there you have it. Another chapter in the ongoing saga of Donald Trump and his, shall we say, *complex* relationships. Stay tuned, folks. This is likely far from over.
