$5 Billion Gaza Aid Pledged! Trump's Reaction Stuns the World!
Current Affairs 15 February 2026

Well, folks, things are certainly heating up on the international stage. President Trump has just announced a potentially massive pledge of over $5 billion for reconstruction and humanitarian aid in Gaza, set to be unveiled at the inaugural meeting of the Board of Peace this Thursday. That's a serious chunk of change, if it materializes.

$5 Billion Gaza Aid Pledged! Trump's Reaction Stun...

Trump himself took to Truth Social, as he often does, to drop the news. He also stated that member states are committing thousands of personnel to a UN-authorized stabilization force and local police. Now, this Board of Peace is a relatively new entity, something the Trump administration has been pushing hard, and this meeting will be held at the Donald J. Trump Institute of Peace – yes, freshly renamed in his honor, apparently. Expect quite the spectacle. Delegations from over 20 nations are expected to be there, even heads of state.

But here's where it gets a little… complicated. While key Middle Eastern players – we're talking Turkey, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Israel – and some emerging economies like Indonesia are on board, several major global powers and our traditional Western allies have been a bit more hesitant. I suppose it makes sense. It’s a pretty big ask, and there are plenty of reasons to be skeptical.

The big sticking point? Apparently, permanent members need to pony up $1 billion just to join. That's led to some whispering that this Board of Peace could morph into a "pay-to-play" alternative to the UN Security Council. It's not hard to see why people would be concerned. Trump launched the Board back at Davos in January, and some countries, like Croatia, France, Italy, New Zealand, and Norway, have already declined the invitation. This isn’t exactly a broad consensus we’re seeing.

The whole thing *is* backed by a UN Security Council resolution, part of the Trump administration's strategy to, as they put it, resolve the conflict between Israel and Hamas in Gaza. A ceasefire has been in place since October, but both sides keep accusing each other of violations. And sadly, those violations have consequences. According to Gaza's Health Ministry, over 590 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli forces since the ceasefire began. Israel reports four of its soldiers killed by Palestinian militants in that same period. So, while this $5 billion pledge is certainly welcome news, it’s clear a lot more than money is needed to achieve lasting peace in the region. Let's hope this Board of Peace can actually deliver on its promises, and more importantly, deliver some actual peace.
