BEŞİKTAŞ NEWS - Sergen Yalçın: "All the New Arrivals are Quality!"
Beşiktaş Manager SHOCKED! Are New Signings REALLY ...
Beşiktaş pulled off a nail-biting 3-2 victory against RAMS Başakşehir in a week 22 Süper Lig away match that had fans on the edge of their seats. You could practically feel the tension through the television screen! After the final whistle, Beşiktaş manager Sergen Yalçın gave his take on the hard-earned win, and it sounds like he's optimistic about the team's future.
Yalçın didn't shy away from acknowledging the major overhaul the team has undergone. "The team has changed by 50%, and we are trying to establish a different style of play," he stated. That’s a massive change mid-season, and it's bound to cause some initial hiccups. He admitted as much, adding, "The players struggled for the first 15-20 minutes, but then we recovered and took control of the game." It's that ability to recover and adapt that separates good teams from great ones.
He also touched on the somewhat chaotic nature of the goals scored. "Both sides scored from individual errors, making it even. The opponent started the second half well, then we played and found the goal. The opponent scored from a set-piece." He pinpointed a specific area for improvement, noting, "Our weakness in set-pieces was very prominent today, which was the negative aspect of the day. It wasn't something that happened often, but it was extra today." It's always refreshing to hear a manager honestly assess the team's shortcomings, rather than glossing over them.
Of course, the talk of the town is the new talent brought in during the mid-season break. Yalçın seems genuinely pleased with their contributions. "The players we acquired during the mid-season break are all key players, and we are playing them all. Their quality and performance seem to be meeting expectations. That's how we see it." But he’s also realistic. "It's not easy, it's not right to expect a great performance with 5 new players. The players are in the adaptation process. Our team has started to play stronger." It's a marathon, not a sprint, and building a cohesive team takes time. He concluded with a positive outlook, "This away game is not easy, it's a difficult away game. The 3 points are pleasing. First we fell behind, then we took the lead, then it was a draw. We managed to win until the very end. It will gradually get better." And if Yalçın's assessment is anything to go by, Beşiktaş fans have plenty to look forward to.
