So, the "Prince of Persia: Sands of Time" remake may be officially dead and buried (RIP, we hardly knew ye…again), but fear not, Persian Prince faithful! There's still good news coming out of the desert kingdom, specifically regarding "The Rogue Prince of Persia." Developer Evil Empire has unveiled a pretty juicy 2026 roadmap, promising a whole heap of fresh content to keep players engaged.
Prince of Persia 2026 SHOCK! Is This the Reboot Fa...
They kicked things off with a whimsical nod to the Lunar New Year, introducing the "Flaming Horses" tool via a Steam update. Imagine unleashing a stampede of fiery equines, leaving a trail of scorching earth in their wake. It's the kind of over-the-top action that just screams "Prince of Persia," even if it's a rogue version.
But the real meat of the update seems to be the upcoming "Breathless" update, scheduled for a public beta at the end of March. The goal? To crank up the intensity and make the experience "quicker and more intense." Now, I’ve always felt the game could use a bit more urgency, so this is welcome news. They're talking about a complete overhaul of the game's opening hour, tightening up the pacing, and making it easier to unlock new stuff. Plus, they’re promising a rebalancing of boss difficulty, which, let's be honest, some of those fights could be a real slog.
"Reworks of the level design of the first few biomes will also highlight our iconic wall-run move and make each biome quicker and tougher," Evil Empire stated. That's a key element of the Prince of Persia DNA, and emphasizing the wall-running could really elevate the experience, adding a level of verticality and dynamism that the game desperately needs.
It’s not just for the newbies either. Veteran players have plenty to look forward to as well. We're talking about a new "Freeze" element, a new slingshot weapon (because who doesn't love a good slingshot?), and challenging arena modes where you'll have to survive waves of enemies. Sounds suitably brutal, and a great way to test your skills. They're also throwing in weapon affixes designed to add variety and force players to make tough choices during each run. The replayability factor is definitely getting a boost here.
Of course, all this news comes on the heels of some pretty significant shakeups at Ubisoft, the parent company. They started the year with a major restructuring, which included the cancellation of six games (including, as we mentioned, the "Sands of Time" remake) and the delay of seven more. Ouch. Plus, two studios are being shut down, and layoffs are happening across the board. It's a tough time in the industry, no doubt.
Even Jordan Mechner, the creator of "Prince of Persia" himself, weighed in on the remake cancellation. He described the loss of any project as a "brutal experience," especially for developers early in their careers. That’s a really valid point, and something that often gets overlooked in these situations. Here’s hoping the Evil Empire team can deliver on this roadmap and give fans something truly special to enjoy, even if it’s not the remake we all initially hoped for.
