Torre del Mar Food Drive: Vulnerable Need You! Can You Help Avert Crisis?
Current Affairs 18 February 2026

In the heart of Torre del Mar, a small coastal town nestled on Spain's sunny southern coast, something truly special is happening. It's a story of community, of compassion, and of people coming together to support their neighbors in times of need. The Food Drive Torre del Mar, a collaborative effort with the Lux Mundi Ecumenical Centre, is once again calling for volunteers and donations to help families struggling with food insecurity.

Torre del Mar Food Drive: Vulnerable Need You! Can...

This isn't a new initiative; it's a lifeline that has been providing crucial support to the Axarquia region for some time. But the need is constant, and right now, the call is particularly urgent. The Food Drive is specifically requesting donations of non-perishable staples like rice, tuna, lentils, chickpeas, and tomato frito – that ubiquitous Spanish staple that makes everything taste just a little bit better. Cereals, biscuits, coffee, chocolate milk powder, and sunflower oil are also desperately needed.

I've seen firsthand the impact these donations can have. It's more than just providing food; it's about restoring dignity and hope. Knowing that there's a network of support in place can make all the difference when you're facing hardship, especially for families with children.

And speaking of children, the Food Drive Torre del Mar has been particularly impactful during the holidays. Last year, they delivered food and toys to over 70 children, bringing a little bit of joy to families who might otherwise have gone without. It’s heartwarming to see such generosity at work.

Getting involved is easy. There are several convenient drop-off locations dotted around Torre del Mar, including the Lux Mundi Centro Ecuménico itself, La Tasca Breakfast & Brunch Restaurant, Café at Global Sport, Oasis Hair & Beauty, Villasolutions, Trilingo Idiomas, and Casa Direct. So, there’s really no excuse to not contribute something, even if it's just a tin of tuna or a bag of rice.

For those who prefer to donate financially, contributions to Lux Mundi are also welcome and even qualify for tax certificates, which is always a nice bonus. Every little bit helps, and it all goes towards ensuring that no one in our community goes hungry. Let's continue to show the world the true spirit of Torre del Mar – a community that cares and a community that supports each other.
