Why is it that every season of Netflix's "Single's Inferno" seems to feature a former Miss Korea contestant? It’s a question many fans have been asking, and it seems there’s a good reason for it. From Yu Si-eun and Choi Seo-eun in past seasons to the more recent additions of Choi Mina Sue, Kim Go-eun, and Park Hee-sun, these beauty queens have become almost synonymous with the show's glamorous appeal, consistently driving the narrative and sparking viewer interest.
Single's Inferno SHOCK! Miss Korea Secret REVEALED...
The producers of the hit dating show, Kim Jae-won, Kim Jung-hyun, and Park Su-ji, recently sat down for an interview in Seoul to discuss the secrets behind the show's success. "Single's Inferno," for those unfamiliar, is the first Korean variety show on Netflix to reach a fifth season, a pretty impressive feat. The premise is simple, yet captivating: a group of singles are stranded on a remote island – dubbed "Inferno" – and the only way off is to couple up.
The show has been a consistent hit for Netflix. Season 1 broke ground as the first Korean variety show to crack Netflix's Global Top 10 TV (Non-English) list. Season 2 held its own for four weeks straight, while Season 3 really took off, holding a top ranking for five weeks and finding a place in the Top 10 in 31 countries. Season 4 even boasted the highest viewing hours during its premiere week. Clearly, they're doing something right.
But back to the Miss Korea connection. The producers seem to place a high value on the authenticity these contestants bring. They were particularly effusive in their praise for Choi Mina Sue's contribution to the latest season. “We were very happy to hear that this season felt more genuine than any other," Kim Jae-won explained. In fact, they were so pleased that they gave Mina Sue a deep bow of appreciation at the wrap party – a gesture that speaks volumes in Korean culture.
Kim Jung-hyun chimed in, noting that the show even ranked No. 2 overall, a record-breaking performance. "We are very grateful," he said, before dropping the exciting news: "The announcement for Season 6 has been made, and we are preparing it to be fun!"
What is it about these contestants that makes them so compelling? Kim Jae-won described Mina Sue as incredibly sociable, bright, and warm. “She left the impression of being highly sociable... She is very multidimensional," he said, clearly respecting her willingness to be honest and vulnerable on camera. He also acknowledged the intense pressure of filming around the clock for ten days, admitting that mistakes are bound to happen. However, the focus always remained on the genuine connections being forged.
It’s interesting to note that the producers specifically mentioned Mina Sue's experience living abroad and how that shaped her expressive gestures. Kim Jung-hyun admitted that they anticipated good chemistry between her and the male contestants, but the reality exceeded their expectations. "Mina Sue is a person with very interesting aspects in private emotional exchanges. She shows her untruthful side in the most candid way," he concluded, hinting at the complexities that make "Single's Inferno" such addictive viewing. So, it looks like we can expect even more glamour and drama in Season 6, and I wouldn’t be surprised to see another Miss Korea alum gracing our screens.
