"The Pitt" Season 2, Episode 7: "1:00 P.M." Review - A Return to Form

Okay, "The Pitt" fans, buckle up. Episode 7 of Season 2, titled "1:00 P.M.", just dropped, and after a bit of a wobble in the previous episode, it's safe to say this one brings the heat. We're talking a potent blend of compelling medical drama and intense character development, making it one of the strongest episodes of the season so far. If you haven't watched it yet, be warned: Full spoilers ahead!

While Season 2 has had its ups and downs – let's be honest, Episode 6 felt a little…off – "The Pitt" at its best is still appointment television. And thankfully, Episode 7 is firmly in that category. We’ve seen some episodes set a high bar for the season. But Episode 7 is a nice rebound from a less-than-stellar Episode 6, which, in my opinion, suffered from some questionable character choices and a focus on slightly less compelling medical cases (no offense to the motorcycle accident victim, of course!). This week, the stakes are higher, and the drama is dialed up to eleven.

The medical cases themselves are far more engaging this time around. Forget the formulaic "patient of the week" trope; these scenarios are interwoven with the ongoing character arcs, injecting a fresh sense of urgency. As we approach the season's midpoint, you can definitely feel a darker, more intense tone settling in. It’s a palpable shift, and it works incredibly well.

Katherine LaNasa as Dana absolutely shines in this episode. She and Emma (Laëtitia Hollard) tackle a difficult sexual assault case, and the scenes, while understandably tough to watch, powerfully portray the dehumanizing reality of post-trauma examinations. LaNasa radiates warmth, compassion, and a deep well of experience, but the episode also subtly reveals the emotional toll this work takes on her. Seriously, she’s one of the show's MVPs. I’ve always appreciated how "The Pitt" handles these sensitive issues with such care and respect.

And speaking of welcome additions, Shawn Hatosy returns as Dr. Jack Abbot! Apparently, his regular gig just isn’t cutting it for him anymore. More Jack is always a good thing, in my book. The desperate fight to save an injured SWAT member adds a crucial layer of tension, leading to some truly memorable scenes between Hatosy and the rest of the cast. That bonding moment between Jack and Samira (Supriya Ganesh), despite the underlying sadness of the diabetic patient's story, was genuinely touching. Small moments like that are what elevate "The Pitt" above other medical dramas.

Finally, let’s talk about Dr. Langdon (Frank Ball). His storyline has been a slow burn this season, but Episode 7 delivers a powerful confrontation between him and Robby (Noah Wyle). It’s brief, but Robby makes his feelings crystal clear, leaving Langdon utterly devastated and adrift. Ball's portrayal of Langdon in Season 2 is just phenomenal; he's replaced the swagger with a palpable sense of weariness and a desperate attempt at redemption. I'm genuinely excited (and a little nervous) to see where Langdon's journey takes him in the latter half of the season. "The Pitt" has really hit its stride again, and I, for one, am here for it.
