Nier Automata's Next Chapter?! 10M Sales Tease SHOCK Future!
Gaming News 20 February 2026

Well, folks, it looks like the androids are here to stay. Square Enix just wrapped up a celebratory showcase for the critically acclaimed *Nier: Automata*, and while it was a walk down memory lane filled with cameos and spin-offs, it ended with a tantalizing message: "Nier: Automata will continue."

Nier Automata's Next Chapter?! 10M Sales Tease SHO...

The showcase, which you can catch on Square Enix's YouTube channel, highlights the game's journey since its initial 2017 release, including the recent milestone of surpassing 10 million sales worldwide. This is a pretty big deal, especially considering it only cracked the 9 million mark in December 2024. Slow and steady clearly wins the race, or at least keeps the revenue stream flowing. Alongside the video, some intriguing new art popped up on the official *Nier: Automata* social media. The internet, naturally, is buzzing.

So, what does "continue" even *mean* in this context? We all dream of a direct sequel, right? Something to really sink our teeth into. But let's be honest, the mobile spin-off *Nier: Reincarnation* came and went (RIP 2021-2024), and Tencent even pulled the plug on another *Nier* mobile project last year, citing monetization issues. High costs and low returns – the bane of many a potentially great game. It kind of makes you wonder if a full-blown AAA sequel is a realistic expectation.

Perhaps, and this is a slightly more cynical take, "continue" simply means more cameos. And hey, those cameos are *wildly* successful. Remember the *Goddess of Victory: Nikke* collab? It reportedly sent their revenue soaring, surpassing $500 million! That's a pretty compelling argument for more 2B and A2 appearances in other games. Look, I love a good crossover as much as the next person, but a sequel is what the fans truly crave.

Then there's the Yoko Taro factor. The enigmatic director hasn't exactly been flooding the market with new games since the *Nier Replicant* remake in 2021. He even mentioned last year that some of his projects were cancelled. That doesn’t exactly inspire confidence, does it? Though, I guess this opens the door for him to fully focus on a new Nier Automata project. One can hope, right? For now, we're left to speculate and dream of what the future holds for 2B, 9S, and the rest of the android crew. One thing's for sure: the world of *Nier: Automata* isn't going quietly into the night. And frankly, I wouldn't have it any other way.
