Hyundai is on a roll, folks! The automaker just celebrated a major milestone at its Czech Republic plant: the five millionth vehicle rolling off the assembly line. That’s a whole lot of cars! This isn't just a symbolic achievement; it's a real testament to the facility's strength and stability in the competitive European automotive market. Imagine the sheer scale of production to reach that number.
Hyundai's Czech Plant Just Hit a HUGE Milestone - ...
The lucky five millionth vehicle? A Hyundai Tucson Hybrid, which, get this, was handed over to a local Czech customer who even got to participate in putting the final touches on it, like installing the steering wheel and slapping on that iconic Hyundai logo. A nice little PR stunt, sure, but it probably made for a really memorable car-buying experience for that individual.
The Tucson and i30 models have been the bread and butter of the Nošovice plant for years now. They’ve churned out over 1.5 million i30s alone. And, along with various versions of the Tucson, these cars are shipped off to over 90 countries. Impressive, right?
But Hyundai isn't just resting on its laurels. They've been making a big push into electric vehicles (EVs). Since 2020, the plant has produced over 650,000 EVs, including around 200,000 of the fully electric Kona. It's actually pretty cool to see a traditional car factory pivoting so aggressively towards sustainable mobility. They even converted an old manual transmission production hall into a Battery System Assembly facility – gotta love that resourcefulness.
And the electrification push doesn't stop there. Hyundai is throwing down a cool €250 million to upgrade its plant in İzmit, Turkey, so they can start producing the IONIQ 3 model. This investment will cover everything from the new EV body platform to integrating high-voltage batteries. Word on the street is that production should start in August, with a large chunk of those cars being exported to over 40 countries. That's a real boost for the Turkish economy. It’s interesting that they chose Turkey to be the first European production hub for the IONIQ line. This will make Turkey the production location for its second domestic electric vehicle model. I think we can expect to see a significant growth in Hyundai's influence on the EV market within the next few years.
Hyundai seems to be serious about grabbing a bigger slice of the European market. They've got plans to launch five new models in the region within the next 18 months. So, keep your eyes peeled for some exciting new cars coming from Hyundai. They're certainly not slowing down anytime soon!
