Okan Buruk FUMING! Was Galatasaray ROBBED By HUGE Offside Blunder?!
Sports 21 February 2026

Galatasaray manager Okan Buruk didn't mince words after his side's surprising 2-0 away defeat to Konyaspor. Let's just say, he wasn't exactly thrilled with the officiating, particularly the VAR decision to disallow what he believed was a perfectly legitimate goal.

Okan Buruk FUMING! Was Galatasaray ROBBED By HUGE ...

Buruk started by acknowledging his team's subpar performance. "We made changes, tried to start with rested players, but we didn't see that efficiency, that 'freshness'. As a team, we weren't at our best. We created too little." Fair enough, every team has off days. But then he got to the real sticking point: the disallowed goal.

"After the cancellation of the goal we scored in the second half... We scored a legitimate goal. This is very clear. No matter what anyone says. The general consensus will be this way. In the 90s, maybe referees would have given offside, but unfortunately, we are in 2026. To give offside on this goal, to call VAR for this goal is a great comedy. To watch it and give it is a great comedy." Ouch. He wasn't holding back. It's rare to see managers this openly critical, but you can sense the frustration bubbling over.

Buruk didn't stop there. He invoked the Turkish Football Federation (TFF) president's recent comments about holding VAR officials accountable. "The TFF president had a statement about the referees watching from VAR, that he himself will make the necessary decision. The MHK president will make the necessary decision. To give offside on this position is a disgrace to football. Tonight was also a disgrace." Strong words indeed. It makes you wonder what exactly happened during that VAR review. Was there a clear and obvious error, or was it a subjective call that went against Galatasaray?

He did concede that his team wasn't up to par, adding, "I congratulate Konyaspor. I want to congratulate our opponent. If we were good enough, even if 1-2 of our goals weren't given, we would still have won. We lost because we didn't play like Galatasaray." But even with that admission, the disallowed goal clearly left a bitter taste. He even took a jab at the referees, saying, "This position, the goal cancellation, would only happen in Turkey. We signed something new. I congratulate our referees." Sarcasm, thy name is Okan Buruk.

Ultimately, Buruk is sending a clear message: he believes his team was wronged, and he expects accountability. Whether the TFF will take action remains to be seen. But one thing is certain: this controversy isn't going away anytime soon, and it will likely fuel further debate about the use of VAR in Turkish football. The league is about to get a lot more interesting and tense as the season continues toward its end, and Galatasaray will be looking to turn their fortunes around quickly.
