The Spanish Civil War, in particular, dealt a heavy blow, destroying original models and plans. Imagine the frustration and the sheer detective work involved in piecing everything back together!

Thankfully, modern architects persevered, relying on surviving fragments, photographs, and cutting-edge digital modeling to stay true to Gaudí’s original vision. The central Tower of Jesus Christ, the tallest of the basilica’s 18 planned towers, now proudly wears its monumental cross. The cross is designed with four arms, making it recognizable from any direction, a fitting symbol for a building intended to inspire global faith and awe.

Video footage from the site is incredible. You can see workers carefully guiding the gleaming cross into place high above the city. Cranes were essential for lifting and positioning the upper section. What really struck me, though, was the sight of residents and tourists gathering below, their faces tilted upwards, applauding as the cross was secured. Head architect Jordi Fauli, understandably, expressed immense satisfaction. "Today was a day we had been eagerly awaiting. Everything has gone very well,” he told reporters.
