Mainframe Studios' SHOCKING Move: Will Cookbook Media Save the Day?!
Movies & TV Series 23 February 2026

Vancouver's Mainframe Studios, a name synonymous with quality Animation for over three decades, is making a bold move to supercharge its slate of original content. The studio, known for hits like "Unicorn Academy" and "Octonauts," is joining forces with Cookbook Media, a global franchise management firm, in a strategic partnership that aims to take their projects to the next level.

Mainframe Studios' SHOCKING Move: Will Cookbook Me...

The partnership, announced earlier this week, will see Cookbook Media bringing its expertise in franchise building, licensing, and global distribution to bear on Mainframe's original IP, as well as its work-for-hire projects. Think of it as Mainframe bringing the creative firepower, and Cookbook providing the strategic navigation to ensure those projects reach the widest possible audience and generate maximum revenue. It's a smart move, frankly. In today's fragmented media landscape, having a strong commercial strategy is just as important as having great content.

One of the key focuses of this collaboration will be "The Immortals & The Shadow Realm," a CGI series that Mainframe is clearly very excited about. Described as blending K-Pop Demon Hunters energy with the visual style of "Arcane" and anime, it sounds like a project with serious potential. Horror-comedy "Ghost Town," also in development, is another title slated for a major push. I've had a sneak peek at some early concept art for "Ghost Town," and it's genuinely funny and creepy in equal measure. Definitely one to watch.

But it's not just about these two projects. The partnership will involve a comprehensive review of Mainframe's entire development slate, ensuring that each project is aligned with audience demand, platform priorities, and long-term franchise potential. This means everything from securing production partnerships and expanding global distribution to developing brand collaborations, consumer products programs, and even live experiences. They're even looking at digital-first strategies, including YouTube, social platforms, and narrative-driven gaming. It's a holistic approach, and it's clear that Mainframe is serious about building lasting franchises.

Michael Hefferon, President and CCO of Mainframe, put it well when he said that having an integrated commercial strategy is "critical" as they continue to invest in original IP. He sees this collaboration with Cookbook as an "incredibly important evolution" in the studio's growth. And you know what? He's probably right. With Cookbook's proven track record, this partnership has the potential to transform Mainframe from a successful Animation studio into a powerhouse of global entertainment franchises. The future looks bright for this Vancouver-based company.
