Spurs Facing Catastrophe?! Can They REALLY Be Relegated?
Sports 24 February 2026

It's a question no Tottenham fan ever wants to contemplate, but the whispers are getting louder: could Spurs actually get relegated? Sunday's North London derby humiliation at the hands of Arsenal certainly didn't help quiet the growing unease. Igor Tudor's arrival hasn't sparked the turnaround many hoped for, and the team looks, frankly, lost.

Spurs Facing Catastrophe?! Can They REALLY Be Rele...

The stats don't lie. Tottenham haven't tasted Premier League victory since the leaves were still turning brown back in October 2025. That's a long time in football. Only Wolves, currently rock bottom, have a worse record in the division. Suddenly, that Champions League spot they clinched last season feels like a distant dream.

Tudor's inherited a proper mess. A crippling injury list, a daunting Champions League last-16 tie looming, and the immense pressure of trying to introduce a new system while simultaneously battling to avoid the drop. It's a recipe for disaster, frankly. Spurs haven't been outside the top flight for any significant length of time since the 1970s – back in '77-'78 to be exact. The thought of them in the Championship is almost unfathomable.

Looking at their remaining fixtures, it's a mixed bag. There are crucial home games against teams around them – Crystal Palace, Brighton, Nottingham Forest, and Leeds – but their form at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium has been nothing short of shocking this season. Just two wins and 10 points from a possible 42 at home? That's relegation form, plain and simple. Can they realistically expect to suddenly find their mojo against fellow strugglers?

While Opta's number crunchers give them a relatively low 4.84% chance of relegation, it's hard to ignore the fact that Spurs have only managed a paltry 0.67 points per game since that Everton win in October. Extrapolate that over the course of the season, and they'd end up with a measly 36 points. That's definitely relegation territory.

"I'd be really surprised if they weren't able to fight their way out of it," former Spurs midfielder Danny Murphy told BBC Sport. "But the games coming up are all massive. I think they'll have just enough. The fact we're even mentioning Spurs going down is unbelievable, absolutely ridiculous really. Whether you blame recruitment or the owners, it would be catastrophic for that club. I've even heard some fans suggest going down could be the best thing. I just don't see that at all." It's a sentiment I echo, honestly. The financial implications alone would be devastating.

And let's not forget how crucial key players like Dejan Kulusevski and James Maddison are to this team. The last time they both played together was way back on 1 May 2025. Their absence has undoubtedly contributed to Spurs' woes.

Yes, they finished 17th last season, but under Postecoglou, they always looked like they had enough about them to stay up. This season feels different. Their attacking spark has gone, and the long-term injuries to key players have only made things worse. With 11 players unavailable last weekend, Tudor is fighting a losing battle. The question is, can they find some fight in them before it's too late?
