Arc Raiders Update Patch Notes Reveal Nerfs for PvP and PvE Players as Shrouded Sky Brings New Threats to the Rust Belt
Arc Raiders Update: Is This the End of the Rust Be...
Embark Studios just dropped the full patch notes for Arc Raiders update 1.17.0, and it's a mixed bag for players, to say the least. It looks like both PvP and PvE folks venturing into the Shrouded Sky are going to feel the sting of some nerfs. Get ready to adjust your strategies, Raiders!
The detailed changes are now live on the game's official website, so you can dive into the nitty-gritty. But the headline is clear: prepare for more than just violent hurricanes and fresh Arc baddies when you log in. This February content drop comes with some significant tweaks under the hood.
Resource management is about to become even more critical. Every piece of gear is vital in the fight against the Arc, and Embark is cranking up the resource cost for crafting some key items. The humble Vita Spray only takes a single extra Tick Pod, which isn't too bad, but the popular Wolfpack – that thing that rains down explosive hell from above – will now require one Rocketeer Driver *per craft*. If you've played Arc Raiders, you know how rare and frustratingly difficult Rocketeer Drivers are to acquire. This change will definitely impact PvE players who rely on the Wolfpack for clearing out hordes. Trust me, I've been there.
Violent hurricanes are the new environmental hazard, forcing players to rethink combat in low visibility, powerful gales, and while dodging flying debris. Seriously, who thought adding *hurricanes* was a good idea? Apparently, scouts have also ID'd two new ARC types lurking in the Rust Belt. The official word is "caution is advised," but really, it's more like "prepare to die... a lot." Those who learn to anticipate the weather patterns, however, might find opportunities amidst the chaos. We'll see about that.
Addressing concerns about weapon mechanics, the developers acknowledged some issues introduced in previous updates. Apparently, an optimization fix in 1.13 inadvertently lowered the fire rate of semi-automatic weapons. They tried to fix it in 1.13.1, but something else went wrong, resulting in a "shadow buff" that essentially allowed players to spam-click and bypass the skill requirement for mastering a weapon's cadence. Oops.
Embark wants to find a middle ground, retaining some skill expression while improving responsiveness. They've added more control over weapon input buffering on a weapon-by-weapon basis and adjusted the semi-automatic weapons accordingly. The goal is to make the weapons more responsive to spam-clicking, but reward players who take the time to pace their shots. It sounds good on paper, but the proof will be in the plasma rifle, as they say.
Finally, Embark is also tackling weapon balance, specifically the disparity between low-tier and high-tier weapons. A lot of players have complained that some cheaper weapons outperform their higher-tier counterparts, and Embark is aiming to address this while still maintaining some flexibility in weapon choices. The full list of nerfs, buffs, and other tweaks is in the patch notes, so go check it out and start theory-crafting. The Rust Belt isn't going to liberate itself, after all.
