Okay, so the winter weather is already starting to throw a wrench into things over in Erzurum, Turkey. News just broke that schools in three districts – Aziziye, Palandöken, and Yakutiye – are going to be closed tomorrow due to some pretty significant Snowfall. I remember a few years back we had a similar situation here; it wasn't pretty trying to navigate the roads!
Snowstorm Shuts Down Schools! Are Your Kids Affect...
Governor Aydın Baruş himself made the announcement on X (you know, that social media platform we all still call Twitter half the time). It's interesting how these announcements are made now, isn't it? Gone are the days of waiting for the 6 o'clock news; now it's instant information, straight from the source, or in this case, the Governor's account.
Anyway, the Governor's message was pretty straightforward. He stated that "Education will be suspended for one day on Thursday in all public and private kindergartens, primary, secondary, and high schools in our Aziziye, Palandöken, and Yakutiye districts." That's a lot of kids getting a snow day! I bet they're thrilled. He also added that pregnant and disabled public employees in those districts will be granted administrative leave for the day. Smart move; safety first, especially in these kinds of conditions.
It seems like the decision-making is being decentralized a bit, too. Governor Baruş mentioned that "Decisions regarding other districts will be made by our district governorships." So, if you're in another part of Erzurum, keep an eye on your local news sources for updates. They'll likely be the ones to make the call based on the specific conditions in their area. Makes sense, as conditions can vary quite a bit even within a relatively small region.
The Governor ended his message with a "I wish our teachers and students a pleasant holiday." A nice touch, I think. It's a reminder that even though these closures can be disruptive, they're ultimately about ensuring everyone's safety and well-being. I hope everyone in those districts enjoys their unexpected day off. And maybe gets some good sledding in – weather permitting, of course! It’s always a balance, but hopefully this avoids problems. It's early in the season, so here’s hoping everyone stays safe out there.
