NCAA Tournament Chaos! Virginia & UNC Surge, But St. Louis...?!
Sports 25 February 2026

Alright folks, March Madness is just around the corner and the bracketology is already heating up! FOX Sports' Mike DeCourcy just dropped his inaugural NCAA Tournament seed projections and it's got some interesting movement, especially for those of us keeping an eye on the ACC. It's that time of year where every game matters, and DeCourcy's list is a great snapshot of where things stand right now, although, let's be honest, it's all going to change a million times between now and Selection Sunday.

NCAA Tournament Chaos! Virginia & UNC Surge, But S...

The ACC definitely made a statement this past week. You’ve got North Carolina squeaking out a win against Louisville, Virginia handling NC State, and then Duke just absolutely obliterating Notre Dame – I mean, a 44-point loss at home? Ouch. As a result, DeCourcy has rewarded both UNC and Virginia. The Cavaliers jumped up to a 4-seed, which is pretty impressive, while the Tar Heels are now looking at a 5-seed. Duke, unsurprisingly, is sitting pretty as the top overall seed. Can't argue with their 26-2 record, I suppose.

Joining Coach K's boys on the 1-line are Michigan, Arizona, and UConn. Kansas, Florida, Gonzaga, and Nebraska are all looking like solid 3-seeds. That Kansas win over Houston was a big one, no doubt. And hey, good to see Nebraska in the mix – always nice to see some different teams getting some love.

Virginia heads up the 4-seed line, followed by Michigan State, Alabama, and Texas Tech. I'll be watching that Michigan State-Purdue game closely tonight. A win there would really solidify the Spartans' position. Speaking of which, I noticed the list includes: St. John’s, Arkansas, Vanderbilt, North Carolina, NC State, Kentucky, and both Miami teams. Also listed are schools from Texas, California, Indiana, Virginia, plus quite a few others scattered across the country.

Of course, no bracket projection would be complete without a look at the bubble teams. According to DeCourcy, Auburn, Ohio State, Virginia Tech, and USC are currently the first four teams out. On the outside looking in after them are New Mexico, Seton Hall, Oklahoma State, and San Diego State. Ouch, that's gotta sting. But hey, a couple of key wins could change everything in a heartbeat.

The bottom line? It's all to play for. This is just one guy's projection, but it's a good conversation starter. The next few weeks are going to be wild, so buckle up and enjoy the ride. There's going to be upsets, buzzer-beaters, and plenty of bracket-busting moments before we get to the real deal. Let the madness begin!
