Marvel Arcade Legends Return! Are You Ready, True Believers?!
Gaming News 26 February 2026

Okay, retro gamers and Marvel maniacs, get ready to geek out. Limited Run Games, known for their preservation efforts of classic games, just dropped a bombshell: they're teaming up with Konami to release the "Marvel Maximum Collection," a compilation of some truly iconic Marvel arcade and console titles. I'm talking about the good stuff, the pixelated powerhouses that ate up our allowance money back in the day.

Marvel Arcade Legends Return! Are You Ready, True ...

This isn't just some slapdash collection of ROMs thrown together; it's a curated blast from the past. The collection boasts six key Marvel games spanning arcade, Sega Genesis, NES, and Super Nintendo. The headliner, of course, is *X-Men: The Arcade Game*. Seriously, who *didn't* spend hours yelling "Welcome to die!" as Colossus back in the early '90s? But it doesn't stop there. We're also getting the frantic two-player action of *Spider-Man/Venom* adventures, and, for the masochists among us, the infamously brutal *Silver Surfer* on the NES. I still have nightmares about that game's difficulty, to be honest.

To be precise, the full lineup includes *X-Men: The Arcade Game* (Arcade), *Captain America and The Avengers* (Arcade, Sega Genesis, NES), *Spider-Man/Venom: Maximum Carnage* (Super Nintendo, Sega Genesis), *Spider-Man/Venom: Separation Anxiety* (Super Nintendo, Sega Genesis), *Spider-Man/X-Men: Arcade’s Revenge* (Super Nintendo, Sega Genesis, Game Boy, Game Gear), and *Silver Surfer* (NES). That's a whole lot of superheroic punching!

Now, while several of these games already supported co-op, Limited Run is sweetening the deal. *X-Men: The Arcade Game* will feature six-player *online* co-op with rollback netcode. That’s right, you and five of your friends can finally team up to take down Magneto online, without the lag-induced frustration of the past. And for those moments where you inevitably mess up (we all do!), each game includes save states and a rewind function. No more starting from scratch after getting one-hit-killed by Silver Surfer's relentless enemies. Thank goodness!

But the love doesn't stop there. The collection will offer various display options, letting you smooth out those pixels for modern screens or embrace the nostalgic glow of a classic CRT. There's even a built-in music player to relive those glorious soundtracks, and a digital archive showcasing high-resolution scans of original box art, instruction manuals, and vintage advertisements. Talk about a trip down memory lane!

The *Marvel Maximum Collection* is slated for release on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Switch, and PC via Steam. Sadly, a specific release date hasn't been announced yet. Limited Run is only saying it's "coming soon," which, in video game time, could mean anything from next week to next year. We'll keep you updated as soon as we hear more. In the meantime, if you need a Marvel beat 'em up fix, maybe check out our review of *Marvel Cosmic Invasion*, just to tide you over.
