Turkish football fans, get ready for some schedule changes! It’s been a rollercoaster week for Turkish teams in Europe, and the ripples are already being felt back home in the Trendyol Süper Lig. As a result of success on the continent, two key league matches have been officially postponed.

Specifically, Galatasaray and Samsunspor both punched their tickets to the next rounds of their respective European competitions. Galatasaray, after a hard-fought playoff against Juventus, are heading to the Champions League round of 16! What a moment for the team and their fans! Meanwhile, Samsunspor battled their way through, overcoming Shkendija of North Macedonia to advance in the UEFA Conference League. Unfortunately, not all the news was good; Fenerbahçe were eliminated from the Europa League by Nottingham Forest. A tough blow, but that's football, right?

So, what does this European success mean for the Süper Lig schedule? Well, Galatasaray are now preparing for a massive Champions League tie against either Liverpool or Tottenham. The first leg is slated for March 10th or 11th at home, followed by the return leg away on March 17th or 18th. Samsunspor, not to be outdone, will be locking horns with either Shakhtar Donetsk or Rayo Vallecano in the Conference League round of 16 on March 12th and 19th. Talk about a busy March!

Because of these crucial European dates, the Süper Lig matches between Göztepe and Galatasaray, and Çaykur Rizespor and Samsunspor, which were originally scheduled for March 17th, 18th, or 19th during week 27, have been officially postponed. It's a bit of a domino effect, but ultimately, it allows our teams to focus on representing Turkey on the European stage.

Interestingly, this all comes on the heels of the Turkish Football Federation (TFF) already shifting Süper Lig week 27 matches forward by three days to accommodate the Turkish National Team's 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying playoff matches. They're set to face Romania on March 26th, and if they win that, they'll face the winner of Slovakia vs. Kosovo on March 31st. So, you can see why schedule flexibility is paramount right now. The TFF had previously stated that if Turkish teams advanced in Europe, their corresponding league matches would be shuffled. It's all part of the plan, I guess!

It's a bit of a logistical puzzle, but the TFF is clearly trying to balance the demands of both domestic and international competitions. The postponements are a necessary evil, ensuring our clubs can compete at their best in Europe while also allowing the national team to focus on World Cup qualification.
