WWIII?! US, Israel, Iran on Brink! Is This the Breaking Point?
Current Affairs 28 February 2026

Has WWIII just started? That's the question on everyone's lips right now, and frankly, it's hard not to feel a chill run down your spine. The situation between the US, Israel, and Iran has escalated dramatically, and the news is flying in so fast it’s hard to keep up. Reports are flooding in, painting a picture of a rapidly deteriorating situation that could have global consequences.

WWIII?! US, Israel, Iran on Brink! Is This the Bre...

What we know for sure is that the US has launched strikes against Iran, and alarmingly, it appears to have been done without Congressional approval. Sources at RT.com are calling it a potential trigger for a wider regional conflict. Think about that for a second. A conflict in the Middle East…again. And this time, the stakes seem higher than ever before, potentially sparking a global economic crisis, or even worse, a full-blown war.

According to President Trump, the joint US-Israeli operation, reportedly dubbed "Operation Epic Fury" by the Department of War (yes, you read that right), is aimed at crippling Iran's military capabilities and preventing them from developing nuclear weapons. But the reports coming out of Iran are chilling. Iranian media are reporting explosions in multiple cities, including Tehran, Isfahan, and Kermanshah. And perhaps the most horrifying detail: an Israeli strike reportedly hit a girls' primary school in Minab, southern Iran, killing nearly 70 students. This is the kind of news that makes your stomach churn.

Unsurprisingly, Iran hasn’t taken this lying down. They've launched retaliatory strikes across the Middle East, targeting countries hosting US military bases. Explosions have been reported from Dubai to Doha, turning what was already a powder keg into a raging inferno. It’s a truly terrifying situation.

So, why did this all happen? Despite the US military buildup in the region, Washington had actually resumed nuclear deal negotiations with Tehran. In fact, the latest round of talks in Switzerland concluded just last Thursday, with Iran's Foreign Minister citing "good progress." It makes you wonder, what exactly changed between Thursday and now? What was the last straw that broke the camel's back? Prime Minister Netanyahu, never one to shy away from confrontation with Iran, needed little motivation. Following attacks on Iranian proxies, he seemingly seized the opportunity to launch a direct assault.

The big question mark hanging over all of this is Iran's nuclear program. While they don't currently possess nuclear weapons, the US and Israel have long accused them of trying to develop them. The IAEA reports that Iran is enriching uranium up to 60% purity, which is getting dangerously close to weapons-grade levels. However, Iran insists their program is peaceful, calling US claims "politically motivated" and "baseless accusations." The truth, as always, is likely somewhere in the murky middle.
