Ousted NewJeans member Danielle spotted in Tokyo marathon crowd, fans rally

NewJeans' Danielle: Shocking Marathon Appearance A...

Former NewJeans member Danielle, still navigating the choppy waters of a contract dispute with ADOR, her agency, has popped up overseas for the first time in what feels like an age. And, predictably, the internet has exploded with support. It’s always fascinating to see how fandoms mobilize in these situations, and this is no exception.

A short video clip, seemingly filmed by a bystander and quickly spread across X (formerly Twitter, still feels weird saying that, doesn't it?), allegedly shows Danielle amidst the throngs gathered at the Tokyo Marathon on March 1st. The poster confidently identified the woman, sporting a white cap and sunglasses, as Danielle herself. Adding a little extra spice to the speculation, actor Lee Si-woo, identifiable in a bright green jacket, appeared to be accompanying her.

In the snippet, Danielle is clearly visible, holding a South Korean flag in one hand and what looks like a white banner in the other. She’s looking directly towards the camera, and appears to be smiling. Now, Danielle’s known to be a bit of a running enthusiast – she was previously involved with the celebrity running crew “Unknown,” alongside singer Sean. And that's where things get interesting. Sources whisper that she was at the marathon specifically to cheer on runners, with Sean being among them. Could this just be a simple case of supporting a friend? Maybe. But the timing is certainly… conspicuous.

The reaction from fans has been swift and overwhelmingly positive. Comments like “We support you,” “So happy to see her smiling,” and “Hope she returns soon” are flooding social media. It’s a clear demonstration of the loyalty that these K-pop idols inspire. They are really showing up for her.

As a quick reminder, Danielle's departure from NewJeans back in December followed ADOR's rather drastic decision to terminate her exclusive contract. This was followed by a hefty ₩43.1 billion ($32.3 million) lawsuit, targeting Danielle, a family member, and former CEO Min Hee-jin, seeking damages and penalties. It's a messy situation, to say the least.

Danielle, however, isn’t taking this lying down. She's lawyered up and is actively challenging the agency's actions. Furthermore, she's taken to creating a personal social media account, connecting directly with fans through livestreams and heartfelt letters. In one particularly poignant message, she stated, “I fought until the end to stay with the members. They are part of me,” before adding, “Even if we stand in different places, we are still one Bunnies at heart.” It's a sentiment that resonates deeply with her fanbase, and this latest sighting in Tokyo only seems to have strengthened their resolve to support her through this difficult period. It’s certainly a story we’ll be keeping an eye on.
