Torremolinos Art Scene EXPLODES! You Won't Believe What's On Display!
Current Affairs 02 March 2026

Torremolinos is buzzing with artistic energy this week, thanks to the opening of two brand-new exhibitions highlighting the talents of local artists Ana Ropa and Juan José Díaz. I had a chance to preview both shows, and let me tell you, they offer a fantastic glimpse into diverse artistic styles and cultural perspectives. It’s great to see the local council actively supporting and promoting the arts in this way.

Torremolinos Art Scene EXPLODES! You Won't Believe...

First up, at the Pablo Ruiz Picasso Cultural Center, you'll find "A grandes trazos" (Broad Strokes) by Ana Ropa. Now, this isn't some stuffy gallery display – the collection is cleverly situated in the center's cafeteria, making art accessible and inviting. Ropa, a Torremolinos native, clearly has a passion for capturing the world around her. Her oil and acrylic paintings range from serene beachscapes (fitting for this coastal town!) to vibrant depictions of bustling ports and cityscapes from far and wide. It's a real testament to her artistic journey.

What I particularly appreciated about Ropa's work is her spontaneity and bold use of color. You can really feel the energy and optimism radiating from each canvas. It's no surprise she received special recognition from the town back in 2021 for her contributions to the arts. And as a self-taught artist with over 20 years of experience, it's inspiring to see her continued dedication and growth.

Meanwhile, over at the Torremolinos Town Hall, the first floor is playing host to "Marruecos bajo la mirada de Juan José Díaz" (Morocco through the eyes of Juan José Díaz). This exhibition offers a completely different, yet equally compelling, experience. Díaz, a fine arts graduate and retired teacher, spent time living in Morocco, and this collection of 45 oil paintings is a direct reflection of his experiences there.

What struck me most about Díaz's work is his focus on the human element. He beautifully captures the nuances of everyday Moroccan life through portraits – weathered faces that tell a thousand stories, candid street scenes, and fleeting moments of connection. You can tell he has a deep respect for the culture and the people he encountered. With a career already studded with accolades, including awards from the University of Cordoba and the National Art exhibition, this new show is definitely worth checking out. The best part? Both exhibitions are free! So, if you're in Torremolinos, make some time to immerse yourself in the art and culture on offer. You won't regret it.
