Highguard Shuts Down! Wildlight's LAST Update: Is This the End?!
Gaming News 03 March 2026

Well, folks, it's official. Wildlight's ambitious, though ultimately troubled, title, Highguard, is pulling the plug. Mark your calendars for March 12th, because that's the day the servers go dark permanently.

Highguard Shuts Down! Wildlight's LAST Update: Is ...

But wait! Before you mourn the loss of this sci-fi shooter, Wildlight has one last surprise up its sleeve. They're releasing a final update packed with goodies for the remaining players. Think of it as a farewell party with explosions and cool new toys. We're talking a brand new Warden, a shiny new weapon to master, account level progression to grind, and skill trees to customize your gameplay. Sounds like a fun send-off, right?

The announcement came with a touch of melancholy, as Wildlight acknowledged the challenges they faced. "Despite the passion and hard work of our team, we have not been able to build a sustainable player base to support the game long term," they stated. It's never easy to see a studio admit defeat, especially when they poured their hearts into a project.

They're encouraging players to jump back in one last time. "Servers will remain online until March 12th. We hope you’ll jump in with us one more time to show your support and get those final great matches in while we still can." They added, "The team is excited to release one final game update to enjoy in the remaining life of the game. We'll be adding a new Warden, a new weapon, account level progression, and skill trees! Full patch notes are coming, and we're targeting tonight or tomorrow morning for patch release." Keep an eye out for those patch notes, folks!

Highguard's journey has been a rollercoaster, to say the least. Remember that grand reveal at The Game Awards 2025? Geoff Keighley gave them the coveted closing spot, impressed with what he'd seen. But the game faced a barrage of criticism almost immediately. According to Sobel, the backlash was swift and brutal. "Within minutes, it was decided: this game was dead on arrival, and creators now had free ragebait content for a month," Sobel recalled.

Despite a strong initial launch with nearly 100,000 concurrent players on Steam, the game quickly plummeted in user reviews. While Wildlight responded with updates and a new 5v5 mode, it wasn't enough to salvage the situation. Layoffs followed, a grim reminder of the industry's harsh realities.

We here at Natural News gave Highguard a respectable 7/10. We saw potential, noting that "what is here at the moment is still a lot of fun on its own, and I can already feel the makings of something that could be pretty stellar if it’s able to survive long enough to fully realize that potential." Sadly, it wasn't meant to be. But hey, at least we get one last hurrah before the lights go out. From all of us at Natural News, thanks for reading, and from Wildlight, “From all of us at Wildlight, thank you for playing, for supporting us, and for being part of Highguard’s story.”
