2026 Car of the Year Finalists REVEALED! What Happ...
This year, we've got a real international showdown shaping up. The final three contenders hail from Germany, Japan, and Korea – a true testament to the global reach of the automotive industry. According to the official press release from the World Car Awards, the lucky finalists are the BMW iX3, Hyundai Palisade, and Nissan Leaf. It's anyone's game at this point!
What's particularly interesting about this year's selection is the diversity. We've got two electric vehicles battling it out alongside what you might consider a more "traditional" SUV. The Nissan Leaf, a long-time player in the EV game, is making a strong case for itself as the ideal urban runabout, promising a respectable 488 kilometers on a single charge. Not bad for zipping around the city!
Then there's the BMW iX3, which is a whole different beast altogether. This thing is a powerhouse! We're talking 469 horsepower and 645 Nm of torque. BMW is really pushing the envelope with this electric offering. The iX3, with its beefy 108.7 kWh battery pack, boasts an impressive range of up to 805 kilometers. That's enough to squash some serious range anxiety. It definitely represents BMW’s vision for the future, and a pretty compelling one at that.
And finally, we have the Hyundai Palisade, the more conventionally powered (though available as a hybrid) option in the running. It comes with a healthy 334 horsepower in certain configurations, and it’s a stylish, comfortable choice for families. Personally, I think the Palisade is a smart move for Hyundai; it offers a good balance of practicality and refinement.
Interestingly, both the iX3 and the Leaf are also vying for the "World Electric Car of the Year" title. They'll face some tough competition there, including the Mercedes-Benz CLA Series. So, it's going to be a double-whammy of awards for whoever takes home the gold in that category. This year's World Car Awards are shaping up to be a real nail-biter. Stay tuned!
