So, what's the deal with Boba Fett? Is he coming back to our screens anytime soon? According to Temuera Morrison himself, it's looking a little… complicated. In a recent interview, the actor basically admitted that his beloved bounty hunter is still gathering dust on the shelf at Lucasfilm.
Star Wars SHOCKER: Boba Fett's Return Triggered By...
Apparently, Morrison’s been doing his best to stir the pot, even encouraging fans at conventions to campaign for Boba's return. But it seems those efforts might have backfired, resulting in an awkward phone call from the powers that be at Lucasfilm. "I was only joking. I’m at a convention, and I say stupid things," Morrison sheepishly confessed to Inverse. "Then I’ve got [Lucasfilm] ringing me: ‘Look, you’ve been put on the shelf, Boba Fett. We might open up the jar later.'" Ouch. That sounds like a "maybe someday, but don't hold your breath" kind of situation.
Of course, Morrison is no stranger to the galaxy far, far away. He first graced our screens as Jango Fett back in *Attack of the Clones*, and then reprised the role as Boba Fett years later. His most recent outing as the character was in *The Book of Boba Fett*, which concluded in February 2022. I remember watching that series and thinking it was… uneven. Some moments were great, others, not so much.
And let's be honest, *The Book of Boba Fett* was a bit of a mixed bag for fans. Some felt it softened the character too much, turning him from a ruthless bounty hunter into… well, something less intimidating. With *The Mandalorian & Grogu* movie on the horizon in May, it seems Lucasfilm's priorities lie elsewhere for now. A fourth season of *The Mandalorian* is still up in the air, but even if it happens, there's no guarantee Boba Fett will make an appearance. I guess we just have to wait and see.
However, the saga might not be over. Lucasfilm is planning a New Republic film, helmed by Dave Filoni. If that moves forward, we could potentially see Boba Fett team up with Mando and Ahsoka in a grand finale. Last June, Morrison admitted that he pitched to Lucasfilm the idea of Boba appearing in *Ahsoka* Season 2, or playing Captain Rex, since he plays all the clones. Morrison believes the reason Boba has not reappeared in *Star Wars: The Mandalorian & Grogu* is the poor reception *The Book of Boba Fett* received.
Speaking at Fan Expo Chicago this year, Morrison suggested that *The Book of Boba Fett*, which he describes as a mini-season of *The Mandalorian*, might be a factor in Boba's current absence. He even noted that it was among the least well-received Star Wars projects. "This show's reception does seem to have impacted the future of the character in the franchise," Morrison stated. It sounds like the actor is aware of the challenges, and maybe even a little disappointed.
For now, we only have two confirmed Star Wars films on the release schedule. First, *The Mandalorian & Grogu*, coming to theaters on May 22nd. And much further down the line, Ryan Gosling's *Star Wars: Starfighter* is slated for May 28, 2027. As for Boba Fett's future? Well, that remains to be seen. We'll keep our eyes peeled and report back if we hear anything new. In the meantime, maybe Temuera Morrison should stick to conventions and leave the Boba Fett campaigning to the fans… for now.
