Well, color me surprised! Just when I'd resigned myself to thinking Capcom's bizarre sci-fi shooter, Pragmata, might be vaporware, they pull this out of the hat. Remember that initial delay back in 2021? Then came the big indefinite postponement in 2023, and honestly, I'd started to lose hope. This game had a "maybe it'll happen" vibe to it for a while, a very long while.
Pragmata Release Date SHOCK! Capcom Stuns Fans Wit...
But here's the kicker: Capcom, in a move that can only be described as cheekily unexpected, announced during their recent Spotlight Showcase that Pragmata is actually coming sooner than we thought. Yes, you read that right. We’re talking about a whole week sooner! They've shifted the release date from April 24th to… drumroll please… April 17th! I gotta hand it to them, their announcement was pretty funny, sort of a self-aware jab at the previous delay. They even reused that infamous drawing, but this time it pointed to the earlier date. Good on them for not taking themselves too seriously.
Beyond the release date shuffle, the trailer also gave us a peek at some of the cosmetic goodies included in the deluxe edition. We're talking snazzy costumes for both Hugh, the astronaut, and Diana, the adorable-yet-deadly android girl. And get this - Diana gets unique dances! I'm picturing robot twerking. Hopefully, that's not too far off. This is the kind of stuff that makes a deluxe edition worth considering, if you're into that kind of thing.
For those who haven't been following this wild ride, Pragmata puts you in the spacesuit of Hugh, whose main job is blasting robots into oblivion. However, he's not alone. He's also tasked with protecting and essentially babysitting Diana, an android with the ability to hack into enemy systems and generally be a technological whiz kid. From what I can gather, gameplay involves a mix of action and puzzle-solving, with a heavy emphasis on the bond between these two unlikely partners.
Now, for the really good news: there's a demo available right now! Capcom is really pushing this title. You can download it and play on Xbox, PS5, PC, and even the rumored Switch 2. So, if you're on the fence or just want to see what all the fuss is about, give it a whirl. And if you’re still hungry for more Pragmata goodness, the latest digital issue of Game Informer features an interview with the developers. I’m definitely going to check that out. This feels like a genuine comeback story, and I'm cautiously optimistic about what Pragmata has to offer. Fingers crossed it lives up to the hype this time!
