Marathon Under Review?! What Critical Flaw Could Change Everything?!
Gaming News 14 March 2026

Alright, let's talk Marathon. Bungie's latest foray into the gaming world isn't a traditional Halo sequel or a Destiny expansion. Nope, they've dived headfirst into the extraction shooter genre, and the result is...well, it's complicated. I've been putting hours into it, and I'm still trying to fully wrap my head around it. It’s got that undeniable Bungie polish, but it's also a brutal beast that punishes mistakes relentlessly.

Marathon Under Review?! What Critical Flaw Could C...

The core loop is exactly what you'd expect from an extraction shooter. You drop onto a map, scavenge for loot, complete contracts (which, let's be honest, mostly involve killing things), and try to get out alive. But Marathon distinguishes itself in a few key ways. The movement feels fantastic – weighty but responsive, allowing for some seriously acrobatic maneuvers. The gunplay is tight and satisfying, and the sound design is absolutely top-notch. Every weapon feels distinct, and the sound of a ricocheting bullet whizzing past your head will definitely keep you on edge. Trust me on this one.

What really sets Marathon apart, though, is the level of tension it creates. The maps are claustrophobic and labyrinthine, and you never quite know what's lurking around the next corner. The constant threat of other players, combined with the aggressive AI enemies, means you're always on high alert. And when things go right – when you pull off a successful extraction with a mountain of loot – it feels absolutely incredible. Those highs are seriously addictive.

However, that tension cuts both ways. Marathon can be incredibly punishing. One wrong move, one poorly timed reload, and you're toast. You lose all your gear, and you're back to square one. This can be incredibly frustrating, especially when you're just starting out. I’ve definitely rage-quit a few times, I'll admit. The learning curve is steep, and it takes time to master the maps, the weapons, and the tactics needed to survive. It's a game that demands patience and a willingness to learn from your mistakes, something I'm not always great at, to be honest.

So, is Marathon good? Is it worth your time? It's too early to say definitively. The potential is definitely there. Bungie has created a solid foundation with engaging gameplay and a distinct visual style. But the brutal difficulty and steep learning curve may turn off some players. Right now, I'm leaning towards optimistic. The core gameplay loop is just too compelling to ignore, and I'm eager to see how Bungie evolves the game in the months to come. Stay tuned for the full review – I’ve still got plenty of running (and dying) to do.
