Max Walker-Silverman's critically acclaimed film, "Rebuilding," which premiered to strong reviews at the Sundance Film Festival 2025, has been acquired for distribution in Canada by Ritual, a Montreal-based boutique distributor. This announcement arrives just before the film's highly anticipated U.S. theatrical launch, scheduled for November 14th, courtesy of Bleecker Street Media. The film will initially open in select cinemas before expanding nationwide on November 21st.
The film stars Josh O'Connor, known for his roles in "History of Sound" and "Challengers," and has garnered significant buzz for its poignant narrative and O'Connor's compelling performance. "Rebuilding" explores themes of resilience and renewal in the face of adversity, finding beauty in the aftermath of hardship.
Ritual Expands into English-Language Cinema
This acquisition marks a significant step for Ritual, representing their first foray into English-language content. The company, known for its dedication to showcasing international festival discoveries and restored modern masterpieces, has built a strong reputation for curating a diverse and thought-provoking slate of films.
William Gagnon, co-founder of Ritual, expressed his enthusiasm for "Rebuilding," stating, "Rebuilding finds beauty where most stories stop: in the aftermath. Guided by one of the most remarkable actors of his generation, it turns disaster into a meditation on care and renewal, on the courage it takes to imagine a future again. It’s an unexpected holiday film. And in its grace and generosity, there may be none more fitting."
A Commitment to International Cinema
Ritual's commitment to bringing compelling international cinema to Canadian audiences is evident in their upcoming releases. In addition to "Rebuilding," they have a slate of celebrated festival standouts cued up, including Hong Sang-soo’s "What Does That Nature Say to You" and Francesco Sossai’s "The Last One for the Road."
Building on a Strong Foundation
The distributor's recent releases, such as Yorgos Lanthimos’ "Dogtooth: The 4K Restoration" and Kohei Igarashi's "Super Happy Forever," demonstrate their dedication to both contemporary and classic cinema. With "Rebuilding," Ritual aims to further solidify its position as a leading distributor of quality international films in Canada. Paris-based MK2 is handling international sales for "Rebuilding." Canadian release dates are yet to be announced.
