Chains That Bind, Bonds That Thrill: 'Chained Together' Video Game Headed to the Big Screen
Alright, gamers and movie buffs, buckle up! It looks like another popular video game is making the leap from your console to the silver screen. Anton, the production house behind flicks like the upcoming "Greenland: Migration," is partnering with So It Goes Entertainment to adapt the surprisingly addictive 2024 multiplayer hit "Chained Together."
From Chains to Cinema: "Chained Together" Video Ga...
For those unfamiliar, "Chained Together," developed by the folks at Anegar Games, is a deceptively simple premise: players are literally chained to each other and must cooperate to navigate ridiculously challenging environments. Think mountain climbing meets obstacle course, but with the added pressure of dragging your buddies (or being dragged by them!). It’s frustrating, hilarious, and strangely compelling all at once. Seriously, I’ve lost hours to this game.
The game's success speaks for itself
The game's success speaks for itself. It managed to rope in a staggering 80,000 players within its first week. Part of the appeal is its flexibility. You can choose the relatively forgiving "easy mode," with checkpoints (thank goodness!), or dive into the hellish hard mode, where rising lava keeps the pressure cranked up to eleven. And let's not forget those power-ups - the coveted "Wings" that can save your skin after a disastrous fall.
Now, the question is, can that translate to a compelling movie?
That's where Cory Todd Hughes and Adrian Speckert of So It Goes Entertainment come in. These guys are no strangers to action and thrillers. Their writing credits include Sylvester Stallone’s "Armor" and the Cole Sprouse-led "Under Fire." They've also been busy developing other video game adaptations, including "Finding Frankie" with Sean Robins (of "Mortal Kombat" fame) and the horror property "Dark Deception." So, they seem to have some experience in this arena.
Anton, on the other hand, has
Anton, on the other hand, has a diverse slate. From the upcoming "Greenland: Migration" starring Gerard Butler (prepare for more disaster movie goodness!) to the critically acclaimed "Memoir Of A Snail," they're not afraid to tackle different genres. Their recent thriller "Fuze," starring Theo James and Aaron Taylor-Johnson, also made waves at TIFF.
The team behind "Chained Together" is confident they can capture the essence of the game: the camaraderie, the tension, and the sheer absurdity of being chained to your friends while trying to avoid plummeting to your doom. It's a risky move, translating a cooperative experience to a passive medium, but, hey, if done right, it could be a blast.
Let’s hope they nail it. We’ll be keeping our eyes peeled for more updates on this one!
