LPGA Finale SHOCKER! Lee So-mi Stuns Field - Can She Hold On?!
Current Affairs 21 November 2025

Naples, Florida – Lee So-mi has stormed out of the gate at the CME Group Tour Championship, grabbing the first-round lead in this prestigious season finale. Playing at Tiburon Golf Club, Lee fired an incredible eight-under 64 on Thursday, instantly putting her in a commanding position. Honestly, it's the kind of start players dream of, especially with so much on the line.

That 64 wasn't just a good round; it was the lowest of Lee's entire LPGA career. Talk about peaking at the right moment! She leads Allisen Corpuz of the United States by a solid two strokes. Considering the caliber of players in this tournament, that's a significant advantage. Lee's scorecard was a masterclass in precision: seven birdies, a stunning eagle, and just a single bogey. Impressively, she managed to hit every single fairway (all 14 of them!) and reached 16 greens in regulation. Her putting was also dialed in, requiring only 27 putts for the round. The stats alone paint a picture of near-flawless golf.

Lee is among nine Korean players competing in this exclusive tournament, which, let's face it, is an honor in itself. Only the top 60 players in the Race to CME Globe points rankings get an invitation. She already tasted victory this year, teaming up with Im Jin-hee to secure her maiden LPGA title at the Dow Championship back in June. Now, she's aiming to become the only Korean player to bag multiple titles in 2025. That would certainly be a feather in her cap.

“It's an honor playing my first Tour Championship, and I don't think I was necessarily in a position to be nervous about anything,” Lee said after her round. I think that relaxed attitude really helped. Her mindset seemed to be focused on the future. "I thought to myself, whatever the score is or how I play, let's just kind of prepare for next year's season. I think that kind of alleviated the stress." It's funny how sometimes the best way to succeed is to take the pressure off.

The Korean contingent is definitely making their presence known. Lee’s Dow Championship partner, Im Jin-hee, is also in contention, sitting in a tie for third place after carding a five-under 67. Adding to the Korean success, Kim Sei-young, a past champion of this very tournament (winning in 2019), also matched Im's score with a 67. With three more rounds to go, and a tight leaderboard behind Lee, it's shaping up to be a thrilling finish. Can Lee maintain her lead, or will another player rise to the occasion? Only time will tell, but one thing is for sure: the CME Group Tour Championship is delivering some exciting golf.
