Well, folks, it looks like the PUBG universe is about to get a whole lot weirder. Krafton just dropped the bomb: a new extraction shooter called PUBG: Black Budget is on the horizon, and they're throwing in a healthy dose of sci-fi and, dare I say, fantasy elements this time around. Forget the realistic military sim vibe of Battlegrounds – we're talking time loops and supernatural anomalies.
PUBG Goes Extraction! New Mode SHOCKS Fans - Alpha...
According to the announcement, Black Budget takes place on an island called Coli, which is trapped in a never-ending time loop. But that's not all – there's also something called "the Anomaly," a supernatural phenomenon that sounds like it's straight out of a cosmic horror novel. This Anomaly is the apparent source of all the chaos on the island.
Now, what really caught my attention is that Krafton is emphasizing "exploration and discovery" over constant firefights. That's a potentially huge departure from the typical extraction shooter formula, and honestly, I'm intrigued. Instead of just running and gunning, you'll apparently be tasked with uncovering "top-secret technology" and delving into the mysteries of a shadowy organization called SAPIENS. Sounds like some serious black ops stuff.
The gameplay will still involve PvPvE combat, which means you'll be battling both other players and the environment – presumably including whatever freaky creatures the Anomaly has unleashed. It's an extraction shooter, so expect to grab loot and fight your way to an extraction point. Hopefully it won't be a frustrating experience if you find yourself up against heavily armed squads and supernatural entities.
Keen to try it out for yourself? Mark your calendars! Krafton is holding a closed alpha test on PC in December. The test will be spread across two weeks, with the first session running from December 12th to 14th, and the second from December 19th to 21st. Details on how to sign up are already available on Steam. Be warned, it is an alpha test, so expect some bugs and incomplete features, but it's a chance to get a first look at what Krafton is cooking up.
Honestly, this is a pretty significant departure for the PUBG franchise. While Battlegrounds carved out a niche, the market is crowded with similar games these days. Black Budget, with its emphasis on lore and unique setting, could be just what the franchise needs to stand out. I’m definitely curious to see how this all plays out, and I’ll be keeping a close eye on it. December can't come soon enough!
