Mitsubishi's 2026 SHOCKER: You Won't Believe What They're Planning!

Mitsubishi's 2026 SHOCKER: You Won't Believe What They're Planning!
Automotive 23 November 2025

Mitsubishi is clearly on a mission. By 2026, we're expecting a seriously revamped lineup, and SUVs are front and center. The word on the street (and coming straight from Mitsubishi’s plans, it seems) is that we'll see not one, but two resurrected nameplates – Eclipse Cross and Grandis – alongside a brand-new Outlander. And hold onto your hats, off-road enthusiasts, because whispers of a new Pajero are getting louder.

Mitsubishi's 2026 SHOCKER: You Won't Believe What ...

The key to this product blitz? Smart partnerships. Mitsubishi’s ongoing collaboration with Renault is enabling them to cover a wider range of vehicle sizes and powertrain options. Take the new Eclipse Cross, for instance. It's essentially a Renault Scenic underneath, sharing its platform, engine options, and even the interior layout. At 4.47 meters long, it’s a good size, and the design is definitely...boxy. I'm personally not sure about the new front fascia with those horizontal lights and L-shaped daytime running lights, but hey, to each their own! Initially, we're getting a Long Range electric version with a 218 hp motor, an 87 kWh battery, and a promised range of 600 km. A less powerful version will follow later, presumably with a smaller battery and more affordable price tag.

Then there's the Grandis revival, also built on Renault DNA, this time drawing inspiration from the Symbioz. This 4.41-meter compact SUV gets a Mitsubishi-specific front end to distinguish it from its French cousin. While the overall shape and interior remain similar, the central multimedia screen is now vertically oriented, which is a nice touch. Engine options include a 140 hp 1.3 mild-hybrid and a 160 hp 1.0 full-hybrid. These look like practical and efficient choices.

The new Outlander is potentially the most exciting of the confirmed models. Expected by the end of 2025, with deliveries in 2026, this plug-in hybrid SUV promises a significant design departure. Think massive, squared-off shapes, a bold front fascia with slim lights, and those distinctive boomerang-shaped accents. The powertrain is a PHEV setup combining two electric motors with a combustion engine, delivering a total of 302 hp. A 22.7 kWh battery should give it around 86 km of electric range. I can definitely see this being a popular choice for families looking for a capable and relatively eco-friendly SUV.

But the real head-turner, the one everyone's talking about, is the potential return of the Pajero. While Mitsubishi hasn't officially confirmed it, Japanese media is buzzing, and the Elevance Concept offers a tantalizing glimpse. This large, six-seater SUV boasts a futuristic interior and, more importantly, a PHEV powertrain with *four* electric motors and an internal combustion engine that can run on carbon-neutral fuels. Mitsubishi is being tight-lipped about the details, but the claim that it's excellent for off-road use has definitely piqued my interest. If the Pajero makes a comeback, it could be a game-changer, a true return to form for Mitsubishi's off-road heritage. We'll be watching closely to see what happens!
