Life has a funny way of circling back on itself, doesn't it? We hear stories of actors returning to their hometowns, CEOs buying the corner store where they used to buy candy as kids… but this one is particularly heartwarming. Başak Köse, a teacher at Yuvamız İzmir Gaziemir Children's Activity Center, has come full circle in the most beautiful way: she's teaching at the very same preschool she attended as a four-year-old!
From Student to Teacher: A Full Circle Moment 25 Y...
Twenty-five years ago, little Başak was just another student at what was then called Gaziemir Nene Hatun Kindergarten, part of the İzmir Metropolitan Municipality. Now, she's shaping the futures of a new generation within those same walls. It's the kind of story that just makes you smile.
Can you imagine walking into the same classroom you sat in as a child, only this time, you're the one in charge? Köse, by all accounts, is absolutely loving it. She still treasures photos from her time as a student at the center, a testament to the lasting impact those early years had on her. More than anything, it seems her love for children and for teaching has driven her journey back home.
"Being here, where I was once a student at the age of four, is a very special feeling for me," Köse explained. "I am very happy to be here. I loved my teacher very much back then. When I grew up, the times we spent together always came to my mind. I also loved children very much. These feelings grew stronger, and one day I found myself here."
The fact that she's now colleagues with some of her former teachers just adds another layer to this already remarkable story. I mean, talk about a surreal experience! She's gone from looking up to these educators to working alongside them, sharing ideas, and collaborating on creating a positive learning environment for today's kids.
It sounds like the community has really embraced her return too. "Some people can't believe it and ask, 'Are you at the same school?'" she said. "Working as a teacher where I studied years ago is a source of pride and excitement." And it's easy to see why. It's a powerful reminder that our early experiences can shape our paths in profound ways.
And with a sentiment fitting for the profession, Köse concludes, "I can say that teaching is the most sacred profession. Happy Teachers' Day to all teachers." Indeed. Başak Köse's story is a beautiful example of how dedication, a love for learning, and a little bit of fate can lead us back to where we belong.
