Charlie Cox, the British actor best known for his portrayal of Daredevil, is making headlines again, this time for his work in the video game world. Cox received a nomination for Best Performance at the upcoming Game Awards for his voice acting role as Gustave in the highly anticipated "Clair Obscur: Expedition 33." But in a refreshingly humble move, Cox is deflecting much of the praise.

Speaking at La Conve/Animex in Mexico, Cox made it clear that he believes the lion's share of the credit belongs to Maxence Cazorla, the motion capture actor who brought Gustave's physical performance to life. "I am thrilled for this nomination," Cox said, according to GameSpot's Eddie Makuch. "There is an amazing French actor by the name of Maxence Cazorla who did almost all of the motion capture for that role in that game." He went on to add, "Any nomination, or any credit I get, I have to give to him. I believe the performance of that character is really down to him and my voice was just a part of that process." It's not every day you see such generosity in the entertainment industry, making Cox's statement all the more noteworthy.
What's particularly interesting here is Cox's acknowledgment of the often-overlooked contribution of motion capture actors. While voice acting is undoubtedly crucial, the physicality of a character – how they move, their expressions, their posture – is often built upon the foundation laid by the mo-cap performer. These actors essentially embody the character before the voice actor adds their layer of artistry. To see Cox so readily recognize that speaks volumes about his professionalism and respect for the collaborative nature of performance.
Cox isn't alone in the "Expedition 33" camp at The Game Awards. Ben Starr and Jennifer English, also actors in the game, are nominated in the same category, creating a really exciting showdown. And, of course, the game itself is cleaning up, snagging a record-breaking 12 nominations, including the coveted Game of the Year award. That's quite a feat, making it the most nominated game in the history of the awards! "Expedition 33" seems to have struck a real chord with players and critics alike.
The Game Awards are scheduled for December 11th, and honestly, I can't wait to see how it all plays out. Will "Expedition 33" live up to the hype and sweep the awards? And will Cox continue to champion the work of Maxence Cazorla? One thing's for sure, it's shaping up to be a memorable night for the gaming industry.
