Indie film aficionados, rejoice! Your favorite purveyor of quirky, thought-provoking cinema, A24, is branching out in a big way. Forget just streaming at home; soon you'll be able to immerse yourself in the A24 universe at your local Barnes & Noble. In a move that's both surprising and, frankly, incredibly smart, A24 has partnered with the bookselling giant to launch the "A24 Shop Experience."
A24 Takes Over Barnes & Noble?! Bookworms & Film F...
Starting this week, nine flagship Barnes & Noble locations are getting a serious A24 makeover, complete with custom-designed spaces curated by the studio itself. Think of it as a mini-A24 museum meets gift shop, nestled amongst the towering shelves of literature. Further expansion is planned for 2026, so if you don't see one near you yet, hold tight! This is definitely a first for A24, which launched an online store back in 2017 and a book publishing division in 2019, but this retail adventure is on a whole new national scale for them, and likewise, a big move for Barnes & Noble.
So, what can you expect to find in these A24 havens? Well, beyond the obvious Blu-rays and vinyl records, prepare for a treasure trove of collectibles and exclusive merchandise inspired by A24's intellectual property. Their popular Screenplay Collection, a staple online, will of course be there, offering original screenplays and behind-the-scenes glimpses of gems like *The Lighthouse*, *Lady Bird*, *Moonlight*, and *Hereditary*. It’s like stepping inside the creative process, which is pretty cool.
But the fun doesn't stop there. Other original works, like costume designer Heidi Biven's *Euphoria Fashion*, the *Horror Caviar* cookbook (yes, really!), and even *99 Movie Crosswords* will be making an appearance. I'm personally intrigued by *Florida!*, the travel guide – I'm wondering what dark, unsettling corners of the Sunshine State A24 has uncovered. Of course, you’ll also be able to snag A24 branded apparel and film-related merchandise like the *Hereditary* Christmas Ornament Set (a bit dark for the holidays, perhaps?) and soundtrack offerings. Prepare to part with your money.
And what about upcoming releases? You can expect to see promotion for *Marty Supreme*, starring Timothée Chalamet and Gwyneth Paltrow, which opens on Christmas Day. Other upcoming releases like *The Moment* starring Charli XCX; *How to Make a Killing* with Glen Powell; *Pillion* starring Alexander Skarsgard and Harry Melling; and *The Drama* starring Zendaya and Robert Pattinson. are sure to be a part of it all too.
"Storytelling has always been at the heart of Barnes & Noble, and we’re thrilled to partner with A24, the home for storytelling on screen," said Barnes & Noble’s Director of Media Bill Castle. "This partnership gives fans another way to experience the stories, films, and artists they love."
The initial launch locations, strategically timed for Black Friday, include Los Angeles (The Grove at Farmers Market); New York (Union Square); Orlando (Colonial Plaza Market Center); Bloomington, Minnesota (Mall of America); Oak Brook, Illinois (Oakbrook Center); Portland (Clackamas Town Center Mall); Seattle (Northgate Mall); San Antonio (San Pedro); and Troy, Michigan. Get ready to line up!
This deal comes at an interesting time, as both independent bookstores and Barnes & Noble are experiencing something of a resurgence. Barnes & Noble has been actively adding new stores, bucking the trend of retail decline. And A24? Well, they’re just continuing to expand their empire, even acquiring New York City’s historic Cherry Lane Theatre last year. Looks like the future of film, books, and indie culture is about to get a whole lot more interesting (and accessible!).
