Samsunspor's Reis: Are They Ready To Shock The League?!

Samsunspor manager Thomas Reis is keeping his team grounded as they head into a crucial UEFA Europa Conference League clash with Icelandic side Breidablik. Speaking at a press conference at Lougardalsvöllur Stadium, Reis emphasized the need to maintain their focus and mentality despite the "positive pressure" that comes with leading their group.

Samsunspor's Reis: Are They Ready To Shock The Lea...

"We are aware that winning this match would put us in a very good position," Reis said, acknowledging the stakes. But he was quick to add a dose of realism. "Naturally, every match has its own pressure, but the important thing is how you overcome that pressure. Every match starts 11-on-11, with the score at 0-0, and tomorrow will be the same. We have 90 minutes to get a good result, and we will do our best during that time." It's the kind of level-headed approach you'd expect from a manager trying to keep his players from getting ahead of themselves. I've seen teams crumble under less pressure.

Reis also addressed the rising expectations back in Turkey, noting that the recent positive results have only fueled the fans' enthusiasm. "This is a good thing. It doesn't cause us any problems. We are trying to enjoy these matches, and we will try to get a good result from the Breidablik match tomorrow. I hope we will be the ones smiling after the match." You can sense a genuine confidence there, a belief that his team can deliver. But he's also aware that complacency can be a killer.

Of course, playing in Iceland presents its own unique challenges. Reis touched on the weather and pitch conditions. "The climate and pitch conditions are a bit different here. I don't want to talk too much about that. Yes, the weather is a bit different compared to Turkey; it can be a bit cold. Maybe we will have to run a lot as a team." But he immediately turned it into a rallying cry. "We are Samsunspor, and we want to play remembering that." It’s a smart move, reminding his team of their identity and what they stand for. He added, "We are also aware that each match will give us a separate experience. Playing against teams from different countries with different playing styles feels good. We are trying to take this experience in the best way possible."

Reis issued a final warning against underestimating Breidablik. "Some people in Turkey may see them as an easy opponent because they are an Icelandic team, but we saw that we played against a very good group of players against Hamrun. We may face the same playing style on the field. We will play against a team with strong players. If we show only 80 percent of our performance, we can experience very serious problems." That last sentence is the key. Reis knows that overconfidence can be just as dangerous as a lack of preparation. As he said, "Biz Samsunsporuz" – We are Samsunspor. They need to play like it.
