'Remarkable Place To Die' Season 2 SHOCK! Prime Minister's Visit Stuns Fans
Movies & TV Series 27 November 2025

Big news out of Queenstown, New Zealand, today! The drama series *A Remarkable Place to Die* has been greenlit for an expanded second season. Not only that, but Prime Minister Christopher Luxon himself paid a visit to the set, which is pretty cool for a locally produced show.

'Remarkable Place To Die' Season 2 SHOCK! Prime Mi...

The announcement came as Luxon toured Remarkable Studio, the, well, remarkable department store-turned-film studio where the show is filmed. The studio itself is owned by Screentime NZ, the production company behind the series, and opened just last year. As a long-time fan of movies made here, it's awesome to see Queenstown – already famous for its breathtaking scenery thanks to *Lord of the Rings* – finally getting its own dedicated studio space.

So, what can we expect from Season 2? Think more! We’re talking six feature-length episodes this time around, a step up from the four episodes in Season 1. This extended run ensures a steady stream of activity at Remarkable Studio, keeping the local film scene buzzing well into 2027. But it's not just about quantity; the producers are promising deeper dives into cultural themes. One episode, in particular, will explore Māori customs and language, which is a fantastic way to incorporate the rich heritage of the area. This episode will be directed by Ngāi Tahu director Peter Burger and penned by Dahnu Graham, bringing authentic voices to the forefront.

Philly de Lacey, the head of Screentime NZ (part of Banijay) and co-creator of *A Remarkable Place to Die* alongside John Banas, has really been the driving force behind all of this. She spearheaded the development of Remarkable Studio, turning a vision into reality. And Prime Minister Luxon was clearly impressed, praising her efforts during his set visit. He emphasized the government's commitment to fostering the screen sector in Queenstown, recognizing the potential for New Zealand to showcase its talent and creativity on a global scale.

Luxon noted the challenge of balancing commercial viability with artistic integrity, something that de Lacey and her team seem to have mastered. Producing content that resonates with audiences worldwide is no easy feat, but *A Remarkable Place to Die* seems to be hitting all the right notes.

While we'll have to wait a bit – Season 2 is slated to premiere in 2026 – it sounds like it'll be well worth it. And with Banijay Rights handling international sales, expect to see *A Remarkable Place to Die* reaching screens across the globe. This is a major win for New Zealand's film industry, and I, for one, can't wait to see what comes next.
