Putin's SHOCK Threat: Will Ukraine Talks REALLY End the War?!
Current Affairs 27 November 2025

Well, here we go again. Just when you think there might be a glimmer of hope for peace in Ukraine, President Putin throws another curveball. This time, it's a mixed message of potential engagement and renewed threats that's leaving everyone scratching their heads.

Putin's SHOCK Threat: Will Ukraine Talks REALLY En...

Speaking from Kyrgyzstan, Putin acknowledged that the U.S. and Ukraine have been kicking around some draft peace proposals. Apparently, these proposals could even form the basis of future agreements to end the bloody conflict. Sounds promising, right? But hold on, because there's always a "but" with Putin.

He immediately undermined any sense of optimism by labeling the Ukrainian leadership "illegitimate," claiming it's "senseless" to sign any documents with them. Seriously? It feels like we're back to square one. "We need to sit down and discuss this seriously," he stated, emphasizing the importance of every single word. You can bet on that.

Now, let's rewind a bit. Remember that leaked 28-point U.S. peace plan? Yeah, the one that reportedly had Ukrainian and European officials in a tizzy, fearing it conceded too much to Moscow. It apparently included concessions on NATO, Russian control over a fifth of Ukraine, and restrictions on the Ukrainian army. Ouch. Then came the European counter-proposal and, more recently, an "updated and refined peace framework" cooked up by the U.S. and Ukraine after talks in Geneva.

Putin seems somewhat receptive, noting that the U.S. and Ukraine have broken down the 28 points into four separate components, which Moscow has received. "In general, we agree that this could be the basis for future agreements," he said, adding, "We see that the American side takes into account our position." Okay, maybe, just maybe, there's some genuine movement here. But it's hard to shake the feeling that it's all a carefully orchestrated dance.

Of course, the Russian leader couldn't resist adding the classic Putin twist: a warning. While expressing a willingness to talk peace, he also made it abundantly clear that Russia is prepared to keep fighting and seize more Ukrainian territory if necessary. He insists Ukrainian troops must withdraw from the territories they hold. "If they don’t leave, then we shall achieve this by armed means. That’s it," he declared. It feels like a negotiation tactic, a way to ratchet up the pressure. Is he really looking for a way out, or is this just another smokescreen? Only time will tell. And frankly, I'm not holding my breath.
