The buzz is building. Toyota's been teasing us for what feels like forever, and finally, the wraps are coming off their highly anticipated supercar next week. Remember the GR GT3 concept that dropped jaws at the Tokyo Auto Salon almost four years ago? Well, that dream machine is about to become a reality, and it's going to be called the "GR GT."
Toyota's GR GT Supercar: A Legend Reborn?! What Ha...
For a while, the rumor mill churned, suggesting this beast would wear a Lexus badge. But Toyota's set the record straight: this baby's getting the full Gazoo Racing treatment. That means raw performance and a serious commitment to motorsport-inspired engineering. And honestly, that's exactly what we want to hear.
Toyota recently dropped a teaser video, and while they played it coy with the lighting, it gave us a tantalizing peek at the GR GT’s backside. Those wide rear haunches look seriously aggressive, and the light signatures, both front and rear, seem to echo the design language of the upcoming 2026-spec GR010 Le Mans hypercar. It's a clear signal that this isn't just a pretty face; it's got racing DNA coursing through its veins.
Of course, what's under the hood is the million-dollar question. While the video showcases the street-legal version, Toyota is also developing a GT3 endurance racer alongside it. Word on the street is that we're looking at an all-new, twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V8 engine. But Toyota’s staying tight-lipped about the specifics, including whether or not it'll be hybridized. One thing seems likely though: don't expect to find a manual transmission option. Sadly, those days might be behind us, even in a performance machine like this. A production version of the Lexus Sport Concept with this eight-cylinder mill is definitely a plausible scenario, and I wouldn't be surprised to see that V8 popping up in other models down the line.
And then there's the price tag. Let’s be real, Toyota isn't going to be able to sneak this one in under $100,000. Earlier this year, they even compared the prototype to the previous-generation AMG GT. While it probably won't hit the stratospheric levels of the $375,000 LFA, even the Lexus RC F is pushing six figures these days. I’d wager the GR GT could easily fetch around $150,000, maybe even more depending on the options. Still, if it lives up to the hype, it'll be worth every penny.
Mark your calendars! The official unveiling is happening on Friday, December 5th (Japan time). For those of us not in Japan, that means we’ll get our first official look on Thursday. The production version is then expected to make its public debut at the 2026 Tokyo Auto Salon, running from January 9th to 11th. We’ll be watching closely, and you should too.
